Memphis Depay

According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Manchester United have already made contact with PSV regarding a summer deal for top-scoring winger Memphis Depay.

Since his shortlisting for the 2014 World Cup’s Best Young Player award, the 21 year-old has been in fantastic form, netting 20 goals in 27 league appearances to rise to the top of the Eredivisie goal charts.

PSV boss Phillip Cocu has already admitted he expects the winger to leave Eindhoven this summer – as This Is Futbol revealed at the start of April – a scenario that seems even more likely now PSV have claimed this season’s Eredivisie title.

Liverpool and the Red Devils are both keen on the Netherlands international – as This Is Futbol reported earlier this month. And although Liverpool have been sending representatives to run the rule over Depay on a weekly basis this season, reports today suggest United have made significantly more progress in terms of negotiations.

As PSV technical director Marcel Brands reveals: “It’s true there has been contact with Manchester United and Paris St. Germain and a third, big European club. But this time we are talking about bigger amounts of money. In this situation we cannot carry on with a club. It’s not the most important thing who we talk to, the player has to choose which club he will pick. He will make his mind up soon and we know that we are able to agree a fee with that club.”

That fee is expected to be around the £25million mark.
