Should Liverpool spend £75.9m on this Serie A trio?

Keita Balde Diao (Lazio)I’m sure that Liverpool fans will still be disappointed with how quiet their club was during the January transfer window. In the lead-up to that fateful month, The Reds were hugely inconsistent and were dropping points and losing games against inferior opposition.

Brendan Rodger’s failure to sign anybody in an attempt to rectify this situation came off as a bit of an insult. Luckily, The Liverpool boss has managed to turn things around without the need to throw money at the problem. I guess we should applaud him for that approach. The Reds now seem to be back to their best.

Still, it would be equally disappointing if Liverpool were quiet in the next iteration of the transfer window. After all, they’re about to lose Steven Gerrard, they lack competitive edge in the centre-of-the-park and they’re probably one striker short.

This brings me to The Metro‘s surprising claim that The Reds are considering spending £75.9m on three players in an attempt to plug these gaps.

Rodgers plans to kick things off by spending £25m on Roma’s midfield magician, Miralem Pjanic. The Bosnian ace has bags full of technical talent and is more than capable of making things happen in the final third. Were he to move to Anfield, he’d provide Adam Lallana with plenty of competition.

Not content with Pjanic, The Reds are also looking to seal a deal for his team mate, Radja Nainggolan. The £25.9m midfield enforcer would certainly add plenty of steel to this Liverpool squad.

Finally, there’s Lazio’s star striker, Keita Balde Diao, who also has a £25m price-tag. At just 19-years-old, Keita has already attracted attention from clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

This season he’s played 15 times for Lazio and has found the back of the net 3 times (whilst also contributing 2 assists). I’m sure these figures will improve with time, but he’s shown plenty of evidence to suggest that he’s capable of performing at the top level.

If The Reds are capable of bringing this terrible trio in, they’re sure to be a lot stronger next year. It’s going to be fascinating to see how Brendan Rodgers acts next summer. Let’s hope he’s a lot busier than he was last January.

What’s your take? Will Liverpool go large next summer?
