Should Spurs pay £20m to secure this Manchester United target?

Memphis DepayTottenham have been enjoying a mixed bag of a season so far. Sure, they’ve put in some good performances (their recent victory over their North London rivals, Arsenal, springs to mind), but they’ve also been responsible for a few clunkers.

For Spurs, the big positives have been Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane. The Danish midfielder is the centre of industry for Tottenham, running the centre of the park, dominating possession and making things happen in the final third. Harry Kane, on the other hand, is the kind of striker that Daniel Levy and co. haven’t been able to call upon for quite some time. His movement is smart, his sense of balance is excellent and he’s a deadly finisher. What more could you ask for?

If Spurs can keep hold of both players and add one or two more world class footballers to their squad next season, who knows what they’ll be capable of? The sky’s the limit.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Spurs have already found their key summer transfer target. The source suggests that the club is now in the market for PSV’s wing wizard, Memphis Depay. If you’ve been keeping track of this youngster (he’s just 21-years-old), you’ll be aware that he’s been linked to Manchester United for quite some time.

The aforementioned source claims that Daniel Levy is aware of The Red Devils’ interest and is willing to offer double what they’re offering in order to get his man. This could see Spurs spend as much as £20m in order to secure Depay’s services.

This strikes me as a price worth paying. Last season Depay played 43 games for PSV, scored 16 goals and made 10 assists. This year he’s already improved on those figures. He’s played 26 games for his club, has scored 21 goals and made 6 assists. Why aren’t more clubs interested? He’s just 21-years-old, but he’s already up there with the best in Europe when it comes to effectiveness in the final third.

With Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Memphis Depay in tow, Spurs really would be onto something special.

What’s your take? Can Spurs secure yet another world class talent?

Yes. Spurs SHOULD spend what it takes to get Depay. He’s going to be that good.

“So bye-bye, we’ve got Memphis Depay.
He thought about United but decided to try
Them good old boys wearing navy and white
Singing this is Spurs’ Memphis Depay.

Yes no brainier, but once again we have taken too long like we did for Suarez and Hazard and he will now go to a top team so pointless article.
