Should Manchester United be in the chase for this £29.5m talent?

Yacine BrahimiFC Porto seems to be a cultivating ground for the European stars of tomorrow. Just look at the list of players who they have sold on for a great amount of profit: James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho and Radamel Falcao. If they had somehow managed to keep hold of all their brightest and best players they’d surely be capable of competing for the top prizes in European football (once again).

As it happens, they’ve still got one or two good players in their squad. The names Jackson Martinez (a deadly goal-scoring forward) and Yacine Brahimi (a pacey, effective winger) come to mind. How long will it be until this dynamic duo gets snapped up by one of the bigger clubs in Europe?

This brings me to The Metro‘s (unsurprising) claim that Manchester United are ready to make a huge £29.5m bid for Yacine Brahimi. The source notes that the Algerian international is one of the best footballers in the Portuguese domestic league. Why wouldn’t The Red Devils be interested?

Now that he’s 25-years-old, he’s starting to enjoy some of the best form of his career. He’s played 25 games this season and has found the back of the net 10 times, whilst also impressing with his general build-up play.

Despite having been born in France and having worked his way up through the French youth teams, Brahimi ended up pledging his allegiance (footballistically) to Algeria. He’s got 14 caps for his international side and has scored 4 goals. Perhaps he felt like he’d get more game-time with the Algerian national side? I dare say he would have been given the chance with the French team too, but there you are.

It’s easy enough to see how he’s managed to cultivate his huge price-tag. I only wonder if Manchester United have enough cash in their transfer kitty to close the deal.

They could certainly use some more talent in this area of the pitch. With Nani at Sporting Lisbon and players like Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia providing mixed returns, Yacine Brahimi could be the perfect solution.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Yacine Brahimi in a Manchester United shirt?
