Can Arsenal tempt this £12m star into a Premier League move?

Mattia PerrinWojciech Szczesny is an interesting character. He strikes me as both easy and difficult to like at the same time. He’s a jovial fellow, who is one of the few modern footballers who has genuine empathy for the fans and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Unfortunately, he’s also capable of being a buffoon from time to time, both on and off the pitch.

His reputation has recently taken a big knock. He made two major mistakes against Southampton a couple of weeks back and he’s run into a few disciplinary problems as well. This kind of thing should really go on behind closed doors, but it’s managed to leak out into the public domain. His image has been affected as a result.

Recent events have forced some to question whether he’s got much of a future at The Emirates. Is he really going to be Arsenal’s number one for years to come? If he isn’t, do The Gunners need to look for a fresh option?

Arsenal can call upon David Ospina, who looks like a good back-up, but they may well need to go out into the January transfer window if they’re to match their main Premier League rivals when it comes to this part of the pitch.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that The Gunners ‘want to sign’ Genoa’s shot-stopper, Mattia Perin. They claim that the Italian is viewed as a replacement for Wojciech Szczesny.

Unfortunately, Arsene Wenger won’t have a free run at the player. Liverpool are thought to be interested (why wouldn’t they be? Simon Mignolet and Brad Jones aren’t up to snuff). Still the aforementioned source suggests that The Gunners are willing to offer as much as £12m to tempt Genoa into selling.

That’s a pretty hefty investment in a goalkeeper. It could spell the end to Wojciech Szczesny at Arsenal, but it’s definitely worth considering. It’s time to freshen things up.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Mattia Perin replace Wojciech Szczesny at Arsenal? Should Arsene Wenger promote David Ospina?

What’s all these noise about Scezny? What has he done to deserve all these frightening sugestions? The guy is still a dependable ‘keeper despite his momentary flop; he would come back to form and can even become better than ever. Please dont stress the boy any further. Who cant make a mistake? Anyway, Wenger is such a fatherly Coach he would treat the case with masterly calm.
