Should Arsenal continue to chase this £31m prodigy?

Paulo DybalaArsenal already have a number of options upfront, but Arsene Wenger does have a propensity for snapping up attacking talent. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this trend continue this January, or later this year in the summer transfer window.

After all, it’s easier to find attacking talent than it is to find a defender: they tend to be scoring lots of goals and making plenty of waves.

This brings me to The Gunners’ continued interest in Palermo’s prodigal striker, Paulo Dybala. He’s just 21-years-old, but he’s already scored 9 goals in 18 games this season. That’s an impressive return for a young player. It’s little wonder that Arsenal are interested.

As it happens, Palermo chief Maurizio Zamparani, recently spoke out about the player’s future. Check out his comments here, courtesy of The Metro:

‘He (Dybala) is a world-class player who is being compared with Javier Pastore, so his price tag matches the skill. We’re talking £31m and upwards. So far offers for Dybala have come in only indirectly, because people know how tough Zamparini can be.’

People who refer to themselves in the third person are the worst, aren’t they? Still, the fact that he’s talking price-tags more or less means that he’s willing to sell. What’s more, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were willing to negotiate if a club like Arsenal were to come knocking. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

£31m is a lot of money, but Dybala is earning some rather flattering comparisons at the moment. Many view him as the natural heir to Sergio Aguero thanks to his nationality, pace and technique. Zamparini’s comparison to to Javier Pastore is also interesting.

Whether Arsenal have this kind of cash to spend remains to be seen (they need to find a defender or two, after all). One thing’s for sure: if this deal were to go ahead, it would cause a great deal of excitement.

What’s your take? Are The Gunners right to chase Paulo Dybala? Do they have other priorities that they should be dealing with?
