In the run-up to the January transfer window, everybody has been keen to share their opinions on exactly who The Gunners need to sign. The general consensus is as follows: a centre-back (or two) and a defensive midfielder. It’s felt that if Arsenal can shore up their defense, they’ll have a side that’s balanced enough to win silverware (if not this season, then next).
Whilst I think The Gunners could do better than Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud, I do agree that fixing the club’s defense should be Arsene Wenger’s top priority. Let’s just hope that Arsenal have a big enough budget to sign a couple of top quality defenders this January.
This brings me to The Express‘s claim that Arsenal are in the market to sign Newcastle United star Moussa Sissoko. The source suggests that Arsene Wenger is ‘expected to make a £16m bid’ for the French midfielder during the January transfer window.
At 25-years-old, Sissoko is now an established presence in the Premier League. He’s known for his direct, dynamic running, his diligent work off the ball and athleticism. He’s not an out-and-out defensive midfielder, but I still think he’d be an improvement over Arsenal’s current options (the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, who are both getting on in years).
What’s more, the player is a big fan of Arsenal. Check out these comments from a few weeks back: ‘Arsenal were my favourite club when I was young. I have always loved this club and I still love them. I have ambition. My goal is to play at the best clubs, playing in the Champions League, win trophies.’
It sounds like if Arsene Wenger were to come knocking, Sissoko would welcome his advances. If £16m is enough to tempt Newcastle into to selling, then this could well prove to be an easy deal to close.
This would allow Arsene Wenger to concentrate on finding the centre-back that he so clearly needs to sign.

Sisoko is not a priority for Wenger, He should Concentrate on getting Shnarderlin or Calvaho or Wanyama as DM’s or Shawcross or Varane as CB’s, Sisocko is not technically gifted.
