Could Manchester United really pull off this shock £70m double-deal?

ReusManchester United showed a huge amount of ambition during the summer. Signing players like Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao (on loan) and Marcos Rojo was evidence that Louis Van Gaal means business. It’s taken a while for the new additions to settle in, but results finally seem to be going The Red Devils’ way.

With the teams around them struggling, United have a good chance of earning a top four slot this year. But shouldn’t they be aiming higher? Manchester United really should be challenging for title on a season-by-season basis.

But to get to that stage, Van Gaal still has some way to go. He should prioritise fixing his defense, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see some new attacking additions brought in as well.

This brings me to an outrageous article that was published by The Metro, that claims that Manchester United are hoping to sign two world class stars: Edinson Cavani and Marco Reus. It’s thought that this double deal could cost as much as £70m.

That’s a huge amount of cash, but these are two quality players that we’re talking about.

Now that Borussia Dortmund have lost both Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze, Marco Reus is their best player. He’s lightning quick, tricky and he’s a direct runner. He’ll give The Red Devils plenty of threat from down the wings.

Then there’s Edinson Cavani who is one of the best strikers in world football. He’s currently playing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow at Paris Saint Germain and I’m sure he’d be open to a change. He can’t find Ligue 1 football all that exciting.

With this dynamic duo on board, I can’t see Manchester United struggling for goals.

The signing of Edinson Cavani would probably mean that Radamel Falcao’s loan deal won’t be made converted into a long-term deal, but given the Colombian’s injury record perhaps this is no bad thing.

If Louis Van Gaal can pull this double deal off (whilst bringing in a centre-back or two), Manchester United would probably stroll to the title next season.

What’s your take? Could Manchester United really sign Marco Reus and Edinson Cavani?
