Could Liverpool REALLY sign this £32m Spurs star?

Christian Eriksen (Spurs)Liverpool looked better against Bournemouth than they did against Manchester United last week, but that’s not saying much. Whenever The Reds have come up against a big challenge this season, they’ve fallen flat on their face.

This is all the more disappointing given how much Brendan Rodgers spent during the summer transfer window. Expectations for this season were high, but by this stage fans have plummeted back to earth.

As such, it’s going to be interesting to see how Brendan Rodgers reacts this January. He probably won’t be given a huge budget, but he needs to do something.

This brings me to The Metro‘s surprise claim that Liverpool have their sights set on Tottenham’s dynamic midfielder, Christian Eriksen. Could this former Ajax star be the answer to The Reds’ problems?

Out of the current crop of Spurs players, Eriksen is definitely the pick of the litter. He’s made 18 appearances for Tottenham thus far this season and he’s scored 6 goals, which is all the more impressive given how his club have struggled this year.

But he gives Tottenham more than goal-scoring nous. He’s their best technical player, he’s supremely comfortable on the ball and he’s more than capable of picking out a pass. He’s also a set-piece specialist, so he could well help The Reds to be more effective from corners and free-kicks.

The aforementioned source also provides a little more information. They suggest that Paris Saint Germain, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are all watching the Danish international. They also claim that he could cost his next club as much as £32m. That’s a staggeringly huge amount of cash for a player of his profile.

But it’s worth bearing in mind that he’s frighteningly talented for his age (he’s only 22-years-old), he’s got Premier League experience and he could well be a worthy long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard. He’s worth considering, especially if Brendan Rodgers can bring his price-tag down.

What’s your take? Should The Reds consider bringing Christian Eriksen to Anfield?

    What a load of cobblers

  • Bob Smith says:

Try 52 million and they might come close. Firstly Eriksen is one of the most gifted players in the premier league, secondly he is only 22 and so still has 6 or 7 years till he reaches his prime and finally whomever is buying him is negotianegotiating with Daniel Levy

  • Yo says:

    Are Liverpoolfans really so deluded?

Already spend 60million more than the Suarez money got you, and still think you can buy the teams best player from Levy?

  • gary fox says:

Total drivel! Spurs dont need to sell and if the player wanted a move he would want a top CL club not a mid-table side with a manager who is barely hanging on to his job. Rodgers arrogant boasting about ‘not doing a Spurs’ with the Suarez money will come back to haunt him and he cant make up for it by paying £32m for a player he could have signed for £10m 18 months ago.

What a load of rubbish why would he leave Spurs when we are on the cusp of turning things around for a club that are quite frankly, rubbish.

So you would jump a rocking ship for a sinking ship? Liverpool are in a worse position than Tottenham, out of the Champions League, no fit strikers of worthy note and their one savior is aging rapidly now.
Explain as to why and how you came to the conclusion that 1. Liverpool are even looking at him and 2. Why Eriksen would risk jumping into the fire? If it was City I may think ok it has legs as they are looking for a replacement for Yaya.
Then £32million is the “touted” figure?? I am very confused as to how Eriksen is now worth £32million? Does this mean that Harry Kane is worth £40million then as he has 14 goals and is box to box, puts in more effort than anyone else on the pitch. Personally I would think about what is written as I am cringing reading this.
