Should Manchester United give up Wayne Rooney to keep Radamel Falcao?

Radamel FalcaoDespite spending big on Angel Di Maria, Manchester United’s biggest signing of the summer was (arguably) a player who arrived on loan. The man I’m referring to, of course, is Colombian ace, Radamel Falcao.

With Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie leading the line, it didn’t look like The Red Devils really needed another centre-forward amongst their ranks. But with Louis Van Gaal desperately seeking to steady the Manchester United ship, he took the plunge and brought somebody else in. It cost him Danny Welbeck, but in the short-term, it looks like a good move.

Just look at the Colombian’s goal-scoring record. At Monaco he scored 13 goals in 22 games, which he will probably consider a relatively poor return. At Atletico Madrid, he found the back of the net 70 times in 91 games and at FC Porto, he did even better scoring 72 goals in 87 games.

The man is a force of nature in front of goal. It’s easy to see what attracted Manchester United in the first place.

Unfortunately, The Red Devils have only got him for the rest of the season. If they can’t tie him down to a longer deal, he’ll return back to Monaco. I’m not sure that anybody wants things to end up that way.

Monaco are unlikely to want to cover his wages (not that they’re lacking in financial fortitude), Manchester United won’t want to lose a good player and Radamel Falcao won’t want to return back to Ligue 1 (not if he’s an ambitious minded individual). Something will have to give.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Monaco are hoping to secure the services of Wayne Rooney as part of a ‘big-money offer’. Part of this deal will allow Manchester United to sign Radamel Falcao on a long-term team. In other words, The Red Devils will have to give up their captain, if they want to keep hold of their Colombian hitman.

It won’t be an easy decision to make, but it looks like the right step forward Manchester United. Wayne Rooney’s goals have started to dry up and the impact he’s making in other areas has lessened. There are also those who are questioning his ability to lead this club. Selling him on will give Louis Van Gaal another chance to select a captain.

I just hope that The Red Devils don’t reject a deal like this out of hand. Keeping Radamel Falcao is beginning to look like a necessity.

What’s your take? Would you swap Wayne Rooney for Radamel Falcao?

    What a load of nonsense!

Rooney goals tried up? Has he not been scoring frequently for England?? And for United?? What planet are you on -it’s not “lazy town” is it?!

United have sold not ‘loaned’ Welbeck and Falcao is his replacement. LvG has made that clear in his press conference a few weeks ago. Now, i hope we could reach agreement with Monaco because there’s no reason why Rooney, RvP and Falcao can’t play in the same team!
