CavaniArsene Wenger faces a major problem at the moment: he’s got a good team, but he doesn’t have any big game players. This was a real issue last season, when his side got turned over in away games against teams like Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Fans hoped that the arrival of players like Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck would change things, but The Gunners have still struggled against the top teams this season. Borussia Dortmund beat Arsene Wenger’s side 2-0, but that score-line could have and should have been harsher. Arsenal also lost 2-0 against Chelsea, making it clear that Jose Mourinho knows the perfect formula for beating The Professor.

Whilst you can see how players like Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey could affect big games such as these, Mesut Ozil looks a little lost and upfront The Gunners just don’t have enough top-quality options. Danny Welbeck looks like he could be a 20-30 goals a season striker soon enough, but he’s not quite ready yet.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are already working on a ‘stunning deal’ to sign Paris Saint Germain’s superstar striker, Edinson Cavani during the January transfer window. If anything about that sentence is true, then it’s very exciting news indeed. Cavani is one of the best finishers in world football. Moreover, he’s exactly the kind of dynamic, at times unstoppable presence that could make all the difference in big games.

The source suggests that the Urugyayan ace has grown increasingly frustrated with his role at PSG and that he’s now keen to seek out a new challenge. Arsenal, in turn, ‘have decided to go all out’ to close the deal. It’s thought that it could take as much as £55m for Arsene Wenger and co. to agree terms with the Ligue 1 side.

That’s a huge sum of cash, but think about what Arsenal are getting in return. They would finally be in a position to compete with the big boys again. That’s priceless.

What’s your take? Could The Gunners really be in the market to sign Edinson Cavani?

Arsenal fc should go all out and spend big, as to compete with for trophies. Edson Cavani, Reus etc will be a good buy on January.
