Anderson Talisca (Benfica)After Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, fans are probably still struggling to understand how their side is so weak and ineffectual against so-called ‘big teams’. Why is Arsene Wenger, a true Premier League great, completely unable to contend with a Jose Mourinho side? Why were The Gunners torn apart by Borussia Dortmund during their Champions League encounter? Haven’t Arsenal learned from their away day defeats last season?

Perhaps The Gunners just don’t have the personnel necessary to win these kind of games. Perhaps they’re lacking in ‘big game players’. Could this be something that Arsene Wenger seeks to assess during the January transfer window?

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are ‘working on’ three potential January deals for three exciting players. Let’s take a look.

Two of the players are German: Sami Khedira and Julian Draxler. Khedira is an experienced defensive midfielder who has made his name through a number of stand-out performances for Real Madrid and his international side. If you saw him in action against Brazil during the World Cup, you’ll know just how good he is.

Julian Draxler is an inordinately talented 21-year-old, with a big future ahead of him. He’s lightning quick, has great technique and has the smarts to knock the ball past opposition players and get into dangerous areas. He’s also got goals in him, which should endear him quickly to Arsenal fans.

The third and final player, is Anderson Talica, a part-time striker/midfielder who has scored 6 goals in 7 games for Benfica this season. He’s tall, powerful and sharp. If he continues to develop, he could blossom into a world class talent.

Both Talisca and Draxler are young and may not be able to make an immediate impact, but the arrival of Sami Khedira could shake things up considerably. He’ll add balance and defensive stability to The Gunners midfield, which could make them more competitive in big games.

The Metro suggests that this trio will cost Arsenal £60m. Whether Arsene Wenger will really be willing to spend that much money in the January transfer window remains to be seen, but I’m sure Arsenal fans will have their fingers crossed.

Whats’ your take? Should The Gunners make moves for this terrible trio?
