IscoArsenal’s season finally snapped into life with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, but up until then, they had struggled to make their mark. Draws against Everton and Leicester demonstrated the limitations of The Gunners squad, whilst a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund proved that they had yet to deal with their inability to contend with big clubs away from home.

This is all the more disappointing given the sheer amount of talent available to Arsenal in the centre-of-the-park. Yet one way or another, everybody’s managed to disappoint. Santi Cazorla hasn’t been his usual self. Mesut Ozil has looked lost at times. Aaron Ramsey seems to have reverted back to his hit and hope playing style from a few years back. Even Mikel Arteta, who you can usually rely on for some semblance of consistency, has struggled to string passes together this year.

This must be why a number of different sources opted to link The Gunners to Real Madrid’s impressive young Spaniard, Isco. The 22-year-old midfielder is one of the brightest sparks in the game. I think it’s fair to say that he’s got a big future ahead of him, whether he opts to stay at The Bernabeu or not.

Unfortunately for The Gunners, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has moved to quash any suggestion that Isco will leave his current club. Check out these quotes:

‘He had a great season last year and we have a lot of faith in him. He is the future of this squad. Isco and [Asier] Illarramendi have a lot of personality and respect my decisions. They are always ready to play.’ (Source: The Metro)

That’s easy for Ancelotti to claim now, but Real Madrid also have to work hard to keep the player happy. If they’re not able to offer him enough game time, he could well start agitating for a move.

In other words, it would be foolish for Arsenal to give up now. They managed to snap up Mesut Ozil after all. Signing a player like Isco should be a mite easier.

Now we just need to wait and see the level of Arsenal’s interest.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Isco?
