Xherdan ShaqiriThroughout the summer there was a constant stream of rumours linking The Reds to talented Swiss winger, Xherdan Shaqiri. In the end, nothing came of these stories, leaving fans a little disappointed.

Now Xherdan Shaqiri has stepped forward to speak about his current situation and what happened during the summer. He told the media:

‘Liverpool made a bid for me before the World Cup but Bayern put their foot down and told me, ‘We’re not going to sell you’”. My contract runs until 2016 and I could possibly extend it. I will consider my decision during the winter break.’ (Source: The Metro)

It’s interesting that this all went down before the World Cup kicked off. Shaqiri was Switzerland’s top performer during the tournament. If The Reds were still interested after this point, they would have had to pay a steeper price.

Bayern Munich’s decision to keep him is also a fantastic show of faith in the youngster. I’m sure their decision would have made him feel good – now they just need to play him a little more often so that they can capitalise on his confidence.

The 22-year-old made 39 appearances in his first season with Bayern Munich, chipping in with 8 goals. Things slowed down for him last season, when he only made 26 appearances for the German champions. Fortunately, he still seems to be developing nicely – he managed to find the back of the net 7 times.

He’ll be hoping to kick-on in a major way this season. Whether there’s enough space for him in their squad remains to be seen.

He’s clearly a top player, so I was disappointed to see Brendan Rodgers lose interest. Instead, he moved onto Lazar Markovic, who’s one for the future but may not quite be ready to make his mark on the Premier League.

Shaqiri may only be 22-years-old, but he already seems to be a good distance along his development path. The fact that he’s such a goal-threat at a young age is very impressive indeed.

Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers made the right decision this summer. All I can say is that I’d like to have seen Xherdan Shaqiri in a Liverpool shirt.

Maybe it’s not too late? Maybe things will heat up again in the January transfer window?

What’s your take? Are you disappointed that Liverpool missed out on Xherdan Shaqiri?

This my own take on Xherdan Shaqiri as a Liverpool fan , lets firstly put things into perspective, He doesn’t play first team football for Bayern Munich, he was one of a hand full of wingers Liverpool was tracking at the time, yes he had a good world cup, and I think he scored a hat trick in one of his games, however there was no mention from him about a possible move being on the table from Liverpool, did you see a world class players playing against England last night “NO” I thought he had a very average game, he now realises that his chances are still very slim at Bayern and is starting to blow his own trumpet,”Liverpool want to sign me” good advertising, however Liverpool’s own wingers at present in my modest opinion would blow him out of the water, if you had a chance to add a player to your clubs squad who would you choose between Sterling & Xherdan Shaqiri, enough said!
