Is this evidence that Arsenal could still sign Sami Khedira?

Some time back, The Gunners were linked strongly to Real Madrid’s ace defensive midfielder, Sami Khedira. Unfortunately, a move never came to pass. Given how good the German is, I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal fans were a little disappointing.

Since the interest in Khedira, The Gunners have been linked to other options like William Carvalho, Morgan Schneiderlin and even Cheick Tiote. Whilst these are all good players, none of them seem quite as exciting at the Sami Khedira.

I’m sure Arsenal fans have been crossing their fingers in the hope that Arsene Wenger will re-ignite his interest in the German. These same fans are about to get some good news.

According to The Metro, Real Madrid have made it clear to the player that he doesn’t have a future at the Bernabeu. They suggest that the 27-year-old holding midfielder was set to feature for Real Madrid in their Super Cup showdown against Sevilla. The fact that he didn’t even make the squad is a little ominous.

Perhaps Carlo Ancelotti is sick of all the rumours and just wants to get rid? Whatever the case, it bodes well for Arsenal. If there’s genuine interest in the player, The Gunners should be able to seal the deal.

Of course, there’s still the issue of the player’s wages. Maybe now that the player knows he has no future at Real Madrid, he’ll be willing to drop his demands to a more Arsenal-friendly level?

I certainly hope so. Sami Khedira looks like the kind of player who can help Arsenal to complete their transfer puzzle (providing they also bring in another centre-back).

He’s tall, he’s tough and he’s great on the ball. He mixes a disciplined defensive style with genuine nous going forward. He strikes me as the kind of player that would fit naturally into an Arsene Wenger side. Let’s just hope that this move does eventually come to pass. It’s not long now before the transfer window slams shut.
