Paul PogbaWhilst Manchester United have already brought in a few good options during this summer’s transfer market, I dare say that we’ll see a few more players arrive before the window slams shut. Fans will be hoping that the players who turn up are good enough to help steady the Manchester United ship.

The Red Devils are smack-bang in the centre of a transitional period. The only way to break out of this rut is to bring in footballers who are capable of accelerating the club’s development.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Juventus may be forced into selling one of their star players this summer. They note that Andrea Agnelli, Juventus club President, is keen to balance his books by cashing on either Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba.

Given that both players have been transfer targets for Manchester United over the last few months, I’m sure that this news won’t be lost on the likes of Louis Van Gaal. If The Red Devils really are interested in either player, they could now be in a position to close the deal.

The aforementioned source claims that Vidal could cost as much as £30m. That’s a lot of money, but the Chilean’s incredible form over the last 12 months explains and justifies his price-tag.

Paul Pogba would cost even more. It’s believed that Juventus are holding out for £60m in return for their talented French midfielder. That sum is even more astounding when you consider that Manchester United sold Pogba to Juventus back in 2012 and received only £800k in compensation.

Of the two players, I would argue that Arturo Vidal is the man who’s best suited to make an instant impact in the Premier League, whilst Paul Pogba has more long-term potential.

Given Manchester United’s need for an instant solution, I’d argue that Vidal should be The Red Devils main transfer target. Spending £60m on a player like Paul Pogba strikes me as too big a gamble at this stage. You know exactly what you’re getting with Arturo Vidal and what you’re getting is very impressive indeed.

What’s your take? Is Arturo Vidal the right choice for Manchester United?

  • Ivan Andreson says:

They should certainly buy Vidal but it seems Woodward is back to the dithering wreck of the last transfer window.
People have praised him for the two signings made up to now but remember, the foundation for these deals was laid back in January so he has hardy acted swiftly on Shaw and Herrera.
Consequently, although I hope I am wrong, I don’t hold out much hope for this signing.

Stupid English media. Vidal and Pogba are going nowhere.
