VidalManchester United have already brought in one midfielder this summer, but another one could be on the way to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Last summer, The Red Devils brought in Marouane Fellaini. Last January, they brought in Juan Mata. This summer, they’ve brought in Ander Herrera. There are some concerns among fans that this midfield trio still doesn’t have enough attacking impetus to set Manchester United back on the path to glory.

After all, Mata and Fellaini were a major part of a midfield that disappointed on such a huge scale last season. Herrera could come in and make a massive difference, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Louis Van Gaal bring somebody else in to try and ensure his success next year.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Manchester United are seriously interested in Juventus’ world-class midfielder, Arturo Vidal. The source even claims that talks are ‘well underway’.

This news should have Manchester United fans very excited indeed. Vidal is a complete midfielder. He’s a truly athletic presence, with the energy and drive to keep running for a full 90 minutes. He’s also great on and off the ball. When he’s on it he’s a confident dribbler, who isn’t afraid to take people on. When he’s trying to win the ball back, he’s an enthusiastic, effective tackler.

He’s also a deadly force in front of goal. In 95 appearances for Juventus, he’s scored 28 goals. That’s not a bad return for a central midfielder. I’m sure that Manchester United would benefit from having his presence in the centre-of-the-park.

Unfortunately for Louis Van Gaal, The Mirror claims that Juventus won’t sell for less than 40m euros. That’s about £31.8m – a lot of money, no doubt, but certainly within Manchester United’s financial wheelhouse.

Signing Arturo Vidal would be a real signal of intent for this Manchester United side. It would make it clear that The Red Devils mean business this year. Let’s just hope that this Chilean ace really is on Van Gaal’s wish-list.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United really be on the hunt for Arturo Vidal?
