Not so long ago, The Reds looked agonisingly close to agreeing a deal for Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren. Things looked so hopeful that the Croatian went public with his comments on the situation:
“At this point, I don’t know what I’ll do and I don’t like it. It was unbelievable that a few days ago I had an offer of 20 million pounds. It was in the morning and by the afternoon the club had said I was not for sale. Frankly, my head is already at Liverpool.” (Source: The Guardian)
The player was ready for the move, but unfortunately (for him and for Liverpool), his club wasn’t. Since then, this deal has stalled completely and it’s not been entirely clear whether The Reds were willing to try and drag it over the finishing line.
Luckily, The Mirror recently published an article suggesting that there was no reason for Liverpool fans to despair. They carried quotes from EHC Hoensbroek midfielder, Tom Maas. EHC Hoensbroek had just faced off against The Saints in a pre-season friendly. Here’s what Mr Maas had to say (as you’re reading, bear in mind that he’s a Liverpool fan:)
“I asked Lovren whether he’ll be a LFC player next year, started laughing and gave me a wink! Told him I’d love to see him, smiled again!”
Whilst there’s nothing definitive within these comments, I’m sure that it will make Liverpool fans will somewhat hopeful. How else should we interpret that wink?
I have little doubt that the 25-year-old would prove to be an astute signing for The Reds. He’s only been in the Premier League for a single season (moving from Lyon last summer), but he’s already adapted well. He made 32 appearances for The Saints last year and looked calm and assured throughout. He’s quick along the ground, strong in the air and forceful in the tackle.
Given that The Reds conceded 50 Premier League goals last season, Dejan Lovren could prove to be exactly what they need.
What’s your take? Can The Reds still wrap up a deal for Dejan Lovren?

For £20m,liverpool shud look to sign hummels rather than lovren
LFC should identify a replacement quickly if this move fails. Go for Ralph Varane if he is available.
