Are Manchester United on the brink of a mammoth £63m deal?

|

JamesRodriguezGiven what went down at Old Trafford last season, there’s a clear need for drastic steps to be taken in the summer transfer market. Yes, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera have already been brought in (and they haven’t come cheap), but neither of them yet seem to have the profile necessary to get The Red Devils back to winning ways.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Louis Van Gaal has a much bigger target in mind this summer. They suggest that The Red Devils are in the market for World Cup star (and Golden Boot winner), James Rodriguez. For those who have seen him in action in recent times, this will come as very exciting news indeed.

It’s also a little hard to believe. Perhaps this news is a little too good to be true?

As The Mirror note, the Colombian wonder-kid has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Spanish powerhouse looks like a club that has the financial fortitude and reputation to close a big deal like this.

Manchester United may have plenty of money to play with this summer, but their reputation has taken a serious knock over the last 12 months. They were largely disappointing last year and temporarily won’t be able to offer new recruits any Champions League action.

For a player who has announced himself on the biggest stage possible, Manchester United in their current iteration may strike James Rodriguez as a step down.

And yet the aforementioned source claims that ‘an agreement has been reached’ with Rodriguez’s agent and that £63m deal could be on the way.

That’s a colossal price-tag, but it probably represents James Rodriguez’s current market value. Whilst I doubt the validity of these claims, I can’t help but hope they’re true.

Given the way that Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and co. have disappointed in recent times, Rodriguez will come off like a blast of fresh air. I’d love to see him ply his trade in the Premier League and I’d love to see him in a Manchester United shirt.

Make it happen Louis Van Gaal!

What’s your take? Could Manchester United really be in the market for this World Cup superstar?

You hit the nail on the head. If we got those 4 players and Blind or Depay wed be in business. Yes James is good but he’s jot what we need and I don’t think he can handle the physical play in the EPL. Remember hes not the toughest guy at Monaco
