Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich)Having made excellent progress last season, I’m not surprised that the Liverpool top brass are investing in their team. The Reds look like they mean business in this season’s transfer market and have already picked up a number of links to some exciting players.

Brendan Rodgers looks like a man on a mission. He’s already proven over the last year or so that he knows how to play the transfer market. Liverpool fans will be hoping he pulls off some more top signings this summer.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Liverpool are set to re-ignite their interest in long-term target, Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Bayern Munich ace has always struck me as a good fit for Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers experimented with Victor Moses last season, but he barely left a mark at Anfield. Shaqiri, on the other hand is young player who offers plenty of end product. He’s good enough to improve an already impressive Liverpool attack.

Better still for Brendan, he may well fancy a move. Last season he made only 26 appearances for Bayern Munich (though he still managed to find the back of the net 7 times). Now that he’s 22-years-old, I’m sure he’ll be keen for regular game time. This is something that The Reds are more likely to provide than the German champions.

Given his current status as a squad player, there’s a good chance that Bayern Munich would be willing to sell if the right player comes in. They know he’s a talented footballer, but there just doesn’t seem to be enough space for him in their team. Perhaps it’s time to let him go.

If Shaqiri does start to receive regular game-time, there’s just no telling how good he can get. He’s already got pace, technique and decent finishing ability. If he adds consistency to his game, he could well blossom into a world-class footballer.

Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers is ready to pull off another one of his transfer masterclasses.

What’s your take? Would Xherdan Shaqiri fit neatly into this Liverpool side? Who else should Brendan Rodgers be targeting?
