Lorenzo InsigneI think it’s fair to say that Lorenzo Insigne is one of the most exciting players currently plying their trade in Serie A today. There’s a reason why the 23-year-old has already earned 5 caps for the Italian international team.

When on loan with Foggia he scored a startling 19 goals in 33 games. The next year he did even better, scoring 20 goals in 37 games whilst on loan at Pescara. He had established himself as a winger with genuine goal scoring presence.

What’s more, he had earned a role at a big club like Napoli. Since 2012, the Italian ace has been a consistent presence in their first team, making 80 appearances and scoring 13 goals. His reputation continues to rise and rise and he continues to improve every season.

Insigne has bags of pace, but he’s best known for his creativity and technical ability. He certainly wouldn’t look out of place in a side like Arsenal. As The Independent note, The Gunners have been strongly linked to Insigne and there has been suggestions that a £17m bid could be on the cards.

The player’s agent, Antonio Ottaiano recently commented on the situation:

“We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list. However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named Napoli.”

“The (Naples) club consider him without a shadow of a doubt as one of their cardinal players for their ambitious project. Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”

I guess it’s up to Arsenal to move that mountain. If they want him enough, they probably have enough money to make a deal happen.

He’d certainly make a good addition to their squad. Last season The Gunners really felt the absence of Theo Walcott, who spent long periods out injured. Bringing in somebody like Lorenzo Insigne could help to round out the squad in a meaningful way. Full speed ahead!

What’s your take? Should The Gunners swoop in for Lorenzo Insigne?
