Thomas MullerDespite signing Juan Mata last summer, it appears that Manchester United are still on the hunt for another talented midfielder. Sir Alex Ferguson sure left The Red Devils in a pretty poor position, didn’t he?

But with Louis Van Gaal now in charge, perhaps things will be different. Perhaps the Dutchman will finally be able to add a spark of ingenuity to Manchester United’s lacklustre midfield. Perhaps he’ll finally be able to bring in one of those Bayern Munich players that The Red Devils have been linked to so strongly over the last six months or so.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are still interested in Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller. Better still, they carry quotes from the German ace that suggest he’s a little unsettled at the moment.

“I have come to a point where I want to know if I am an important part of the future starting line-up in Bavaria. And [I need to know] if the club really has plans for me in the coming years. That is why I have asked for a conversation.”

It’s strange to see who a player who has been so successful for the German champions over the last few years speak about the uncertainty that’s currently clouding his future. These things usually happen behind close doors, but Muller has made it public.

Given that Van Gaal is the man who gave Muller his big break in the first place (back when the Dutchman was managing Bayern), I can’t help but wonder if he’d be tempted by a move to Old Trafford. He’d certainly be a regular first-teamer within this Manchester United squad.

There’s no word as to how much he might cost, but given that he’s made 98 appearances and scored 49 goals (don’t forget that he’s a midfielder) over the last two seasons, he’s unlikely to come cheap. Still, if Manchester United are to turn things around, they’ll need to spend some serious cash. Bringing Thomas Muller in could prove to be a good start.

What’s your take? Should The Red Devils snap up this uncertain Bayern Munich star?
