Should Liverpool turn their attention to this £25m ace?

Brendan Rodgers clearly means business this summer. Having already wrapped up a deal for Ricky Lambert, The Reds have also been strongly linked with moves for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno and Southampton midfielder, Adam Lallana.

Whilst it’s great to see The Reds take positive strides in the transfer market, it’s worth noting that Brendan Rodgers does have some time to pause and reflect. The transfer market isn’t a race. Performing well requires making smart decisions and using your resources wisely.

Sure, Adam Lallana would be an excellent addition to this Liverpool side. He’s an astute midfielder who’s supremely confident on the ball and has surprising technical talent given his British nationality. But is he exactly what The Reds need at the moment in time? What’s more, isn’t his price-tag a little over inflated?

It’s thought that Brendan Rodgers only wants to pay £20m for Lallana, but that Southampton want more. Whilst The Saints are well within their rights to hold Liverpool to ransom, The Reds don’t have to play ball. I’d say it’s about time to start looking at other options.

Luckily, that’s what Brendan’s going to do. According to The Mirror, Liverpool are set to end their interest in Adam Lallana and ‘set their sights’ on Serbian ace Lazar Markovic. Whilst some Liverpool fans may be disappointed with this change in tact, I can’t help but feel that this is the right decision.

Lazar’s only 20-years-old, but he’s already established himself as a key player for Benfica. This season he has played 49 games for the Portuguese side and found the back of the net 7 times. That’s not too bad a return for a young winger.

He’s also impressed with his pace, direct running and his crossing ability. At just 20-years-old, he’s certainly got a considerable amount of potential.

The aforementioned source hints that Markovic could be available for £25m this summer. That’s more than Liverpool are willing to pay for Lallana, but this Serbian star represents an entirely different prospect. He’s got the potential to develop into a truly world-class talent. Doesn’t that make him a worthy investment?
