Marco ReusOf all the players linked to Manchester United in recent times, the most exciting of them has to be Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus. To put it simply, the young German is one of the best wingers in world football and he’d provide a massive uplift for a flagging team were he to move to Old Trafford.

After the season from hell, The Red Devils will be looking to make two-or-three big money signings this summer. They’ll be looking to make the kind of additions to their squad that re-announce them as a major force in the footballing landscape. After a season where they’ve slipped out of the conversation, they’ll want their transfer activity to stir up a fair amount of chatter.

That’s where Marco Reus could step in. With The International Business Times claiming that Manchester United have made a £32.7m bid for the player, progress on this front may not be impossible. This won’t be an easy deal to close, given Reus’ importance to Borussia Dortmund, but The Red Devils certainly have enough financial firepower to give the Bundesliga side pause for thought.

I’m sure that Reus won’t stay at the Signal Iduna Park for the rest of his career. It’s probably a case of when he will move on, rather than whether he will. Manchester United need to provide him with a compelling reason to jump ship sooner rather than later.

He certainly seems to be hitting the form of his career. This season he has scored 16 goals and made 13 assists in just 29 Bundesliga appearances. He’s also impressed with his general build-up play and the way he combines with Robert Lewandowski. He’s clearly world class and would probably make an instant impact at Old Trafford.

Something tells me that £32.7m won’t be enough to persuade Dortmund to sell, but it’s a good starting point. It’ll test the waters to see whether the Bundesliga team are willing to entertain selling one of their key assets. Either way, I hope whoever takes charge at Manchester United this summer adds Reus to their transfer wish-list.

What’s your take? Can Manchester United really compete for Marco Reus? Should they look at other options?
