Bernard durante entrevista coletiva do Atlético-MGLast summer Arsenal were linked to a tiny but talented Brazilian called Bernard. That’s a great name for somebody who’s thought to be one of his country’s brightest and best isn’t it? You can really imagine the commentator screaming is as he fires home a extra-time winner, can’t you?

Regardless, Bernard ended up moving to Shakhtar Donetsk (who were willing to shell out a considerable amount for his services) and Arsenal’s interest in the player was brought to an untimely end. It looked like the game was up.

But if you believe The Mirror, The Gunners could be about to move back in for Bernard this summer. The source notes that the Brazilian is keen to leave Ukraine after all the recent social unrest in Donetsk. This could mean that he’s available for just £19m, which is a good price considering his pedigree. I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsene Wenger were sniffing around — he loves a good bargain.

There’s certainly no doubting Bernard’s ability. He’s only 21-years-old but he’s got his place in the Brazilian World Cup squad (over players like PSG’s Lucas Moura) and will have an opportunity to prove his worth this summer. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see his price-tag rocket over the coming months.

As such, it would be prudent for The Gunners to act quickly. If they’re genuinely interested in bringing Bernard to the Emirates, then now’s the time to act. If they’re too slow, they could end up missing out.

I’m not sure they really need yet another crafty number ten-type, but Bernard certainly isn’t one to turn your nose up at. He has the quality to improve this Arsenal side and that’s all that really matters.

Besides, at 21-years-old, he could still blossom into a genuine superstar. He has all the natural ability in the world. Now he only needs a manager like Arsene Wenger to help mould him. It’ll certainly be interesting to watch this one play out.

What’s your take? Is Arsene Wenger right to target this Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder? Shouldn’t he be on the hunt for a striker?

You should rephrase the question to why we will not be buy Bernard, or any other EPL team for that matter.

it is because he is in a THIRD PARTY ownership. Not permitted in the EPL.

He would cost nearer £50m to buy out completely, which is unlikely.

I used to call Wenger, Mr. foot-dragger, he shld open his eyes nd grab dis player, now dat the Brazilian is affordable, not tomorrow he will be lamenting dat he nearly sign this or that unlike the case of Zlatan, Kolo Toure, Cristiano Ronaldo just name them. He shld learn from his past mistakes. Arsenal don’t have bench, that is why if one gets injury, the trophy that year is over. He will name every player in Europe yet he will not buy one, not dat the fund is not there for him to spend.
