Adam LallanaLiverpool have been linked quite strongly to Southampton’s Adam Lallana over the last month or so, but wrapping up a deal for the England midfielder was never going to be easy. He’s one of Liverpool’s most important players and Mauricio Pochettino was never going to let him go without a fight.

The Mirror recently published an article suggesting that Brendan Rodgers was hoping to secure a £20m deal for The Saints’ captain this summer. This strikes me as wishful thinking. That’s the same amount of cash that The Reds spent on Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana is considerably more talented.

It’s also suggested that Southampton are demanding at least £25m for Lallana. That’s the figure it will take to convince them to sell.

They’re certainly well within their right to do so. He’s been at the club for 14 years and has made 265 appearances for their first team. He was an integral part of The Saints promotion from the Championship and is one of the main reasons why they’ve managed to perform so well in the Premier League for two seasons in a row.

It’s a little like when Chelsea came in for Steven Gerrard a few years back. Of course Southampton are going to dig their feet in.

But Liverpool certainly have the financial fire-power to tempt The Saints into selling. What’s more, Adam Lallana may fancy a new challenge. He’s been at St Marys for quite some time and a move to Anfield would provide him with a shot at earning some serious silverware. Yes, he looks like a one club man, but Brendan Rodgers has plenty to offer him.

Lallana has played 42 games this season and has found the back of the net 10 times. That’s a good return for a midfielder, but it’s his build-up play that has impressed the most. He oozes confidence on the ball, has bag-loads of technical ability and knows how to deliver a killer pass. For my money, he looks like a great long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard.

I’d say that that’s worth spending £25m on.

What’s your take? Should The Reds be in the market for Adam Lallana? Are there cheaper options out there?

No thanks. He is not worth the £20M let allow that extra £5M inflation put on by southampton as they can’t face up to honouring their previous contract with him.

tbh blindside I think Lallana is definitely worth 20 million, look at him last season he played class and was voted player of the year but he didn’t get it and he got in the team of the season. I don’t see why we wouldn’t go for him ? although I would prefer to see sanchez or pedro coming to the club
