Could this be Liverpool’s most impressive summer transfer target?

PedroAfter an exciting season at Anfield, it’ll be equally exciting to see what Liverpool do next. When the transfer window opens, The Reds will be given a chance to right the wrongs inherent within their squad. At the moment, they’re lacking defensive options and could probably use a crafty winger to help provide a little more threat down the flanks.

It’s that latter issue that I’d like to focus on today, particularly as The Mirror recently ran an article suggesting that Brendan Rodgers has singled out Barcelona star, ‘Pedro’ as a key transfer target. This strikes me as massive news for the club and an indication of just how ambitious Liverpool have become. If this is the route they’re heading down, they’re sure to come back even stronger next season.

The article suggests that Brendan Rodgers and co. have made a ‘discreet approach’ (uh?) for Pedro and have been told by the Barca hierarchy that he could be available for the right price. Unfortunately, the source doesn’t mention what that price might be, though they do note that it could be affected by his performance in the World Cup this summer.

He’s a major part of Spain’s squad, having made 37 appearances for his International team and scored 14 goals. He’s also been similarly effective at club level. In 268 appearances for Barca (he’s been at the Nou Camp since 2006!) he’s found the back of the net 87 times. This year, he’s scored 19 goals from down the flanks. No wonder Liverpool are interested.

Pedro’s ability is clear. If for some reason he’s surplus to requirements at Barcelona, it’s The Reds duty to step in and tempt him away. At 26-years-old, he’s about to enter the best years of his career and I’d love to see him spend them at Anfield.

Of course, he won’t come cheap. But quality never does. If Liverpool want to come back stronger next year, this looks like an essential addition. Fingers crossed that Brendan can pull it off.

What’s your take? Could Liverpool really pull off a deal for this Barcelona star? Should they be chasing more realistic targets?

I could be wrong but is he really that good ? A reserve for Barcelona and Spain .
Now if it was Alexis Sanchez that would be a worthy target.
Fortunately the Liverpool transfer committee will probably scupper any move for Pedro due to the fact that he is 26 . They might also veto Sanchez though he is a little younger.
So I am hoping we do not sign Pedro as we do have Suso and Ibe waiting to come through.

LFC need to get all their transfer as early as possible or bear the consequences of what happened to Moyes an Man U last season.

Our problem is to get cm,df n one wing either pedro/sanchez that will be good.

  • Brian Malachi says:

i personally think that alexis sanchez would a better option to pedro,,

  • Stephen says:

Sanchez top target. Greek winger also. Then Southampton midfielder . We have 12 defenders we surly can make a good defence from this lot. To be fair we push full backs up together and leave centre backs exposed. Gerard has to stay back to support or only one full back at a time goes into the other half .

This is a good one for us, Pedro will add very much flexibility, and threat to oponents.
