Would this £8m signing be just the ticket for Liverpool?

TorschützeWith Liverpool brushing aside teams with consummate ease (some pretty big fish too, like Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United), it’s pretty difficult to look towards the summer transfer market. There is, after all, Premier League winners medals to be won.

But you can bet that Brendan Rodgers is already drawing up his summer plans. He’s put his team in a very strong position. By making further purchases in the summer transfer market, he can solidify the club’s current position.

If Liverpool want to compete on multiple fronts next season, making a signing or two is damn near essential. The more world-class footballers that Brendan Rodgers can encourage to move to Anfield, the better.

This brings me to The Star‘s claim that Liverpool (and Everton) are on the trail of Nuremberg’s highly-rated young striker, Josip Drmic.

‘Who?’ I hear you ask. Drmic is the young Swiss striker who’s currently second in the Bundesliga goal-scoring charts. He’s scored 16 goals in 27 games and has turned quite a few heads in the process. No wonder Brendan Rodgers and co. are sniffing around.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, the 21-year-old seems to have the hots for Arsenal. Check out these quotes from the Swiss centre-forward:

“What will happen in the future, I don’t know. Any boy dreams about playing for Arsenal.”

That’s not to say that Liverpool can’t tempt him away. Who wouldn’t want to play alongside Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez?

The Reds need a decent reserve striker in case one of their current options picks up a long-term injury. Drmic, who’s earned himself an £8m price-tag, would certainly tick that box. Who knows, he may even push for a first team place soon enough.

If Liverpool can see off The Gunners they’ll end up with another of Europe’s most impressive young footballers. Surely we’d have to put this down as another smart move on the part of Brendan Rodgers?

Liverpool need to prove that they’re not one-season wonders. They need to come back even stronger next year. Josip Drmic could be the man to make this happen.

What’s your take? Would Josip Drmic help to improve this Liverpool side? Does Brendan Rodgers really need to sign another striker?

He said that because Arsenal was the only rumour he heard, which player will hear Liverpool and will not jump at it?
