Why Liverpool should snap up this £20m Serbian prodigy:

Liverpool have already asserted themselves in the Premier League this season. I’m looking forward to seeing if they can do the same in the transfer window this summer.

For the last couple of years, The Reds have been a little tentative in the transfer market. That’s the legacy of King Kenny’s reckless spending. Luckily, Brendan Rodgers has made a few smart signings and made some particularly brave decisions last summer. Whilst they haven’t all worked out, the ones that have (Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge immediately spring to mind) have helped to take Liverpool to the next level.

It’s one of the key reasons why Liverpool are currently competing for the Premier League title. Who knows, if the Reds are able to throw their financial weight around this summer, maybe Brendan Rodgers will be able to create a squad that’s capable of delivering on multiple fronts.

It looks as though he’s already outlining his targets. According to The Mirror, The Reds are interested in £20m rated Serbian ace, Lazar Markovic. They may well have to show laser like focus (sorry!) if they’re going to sign him, as cash-rich Chelsea are also sniffing around. Given his big price-tag and the competition for his signature, closing this deal is unlikely to be easy.

The little winger has been at Benfica for just one season since moving from Partizan, but he’s already managed to catch pundit’s eyes. In 34 games he has found the back of the net 7 times, whilst also impressing with his pace, technical ability and direct attacking nature.

The fact that he’s just 20-years-old makes him even more impressive. He’s already pretty damn good, so imagine the player he can become over the next two-or-three seasons. If The Reds had both Markovic and Raheem Sterling providing threat down the wings, they’d certainly have plenty of attacking impetus.

All that remains to be seen now, if whether Brendan Rodgers is willing to spend £20m on another youngster. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.
