‘I’ve talked to Daniel Levy’: Are Spurs about to sign this £25m talent?

Romelu LukakuFinding a top-quality striker with Premier League pedigree isn’t easy. The best have unthinkably large price-tags and the worst are hardly worth considering.

This puts Spurs in a difficult position. They’ve struggled this season because they brought in too many players from other Leagues (Newcastle United are facing a similar issue). A lot of these players have yet to gel with one another and this has had a clear impact on results.

Still, it’s clear that Spurs need to sign another striker. Roberto Soldado has been way under par and there’s only so long you can continue to rely on Emmanuel Adebayor. If Daniel Levy and co. have learned their lesson, they’ll swoop for a Premier League option. But who can they afford to sign that will improve the club’s goal-scoring ability?

How about Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku? The big Belgian is currently on loan at Everton where he has scored 13 goals in 26 games. Last season he scored 17 goals whilst on loan with a fairly average West Brom team. The man has plenty of Premier League pedigree and he’s still just 20-years-old.

The Mirror claim that Tottenham are interested and that he has a £25m price-tag. What’s more, Lukaku’s agent, Christophe Henrotay, told the Belgian press:

“I’m looking for a club for Romelu. And yes, I’ve talked to Daniel Levy once, but that doesn’t mean Romelu will definitely join Spurs. That’s not a talking point at this moment.”

“There aren’t 20 teams that can afford to buy Romelu. He won’t go from Everton to, let’s say, Swansea. There’s also a difference between Everton that plays against relegation and an Everton that fights for European football.”

That’s not a talking point at the moment? Then why are you talking about it Christophe? Agents are smart cookies. They know that their comments will get picked up by the press. If he’s said something, it’s for a reason: he wants to attract more attention for his client.

In that regard, I’d say that he has been successful.

The fact that Levy has been in touch is very exciting indeed. This is exactly the kind of player Spurs need to sign if they’re to earn a Champions League spot next season. Let’s just hope that Daniel Levy has £25m spare.

What’s your take? Can Spurs really compete for Romelu Lukaku?

    More speculative bullshit.

At this going rate spurs will not be able to attract any decent players..leave alone those with pedigree. Awful state of affairs on and off the field. Till now the players cannot gel as a team..just a bunch of individuals with those supposed to be playing are languishing on the bench..nut sense or favouritism or stubborness or plain ignorane. Whatever it is it has cost dpurs dearly.

Wel we won’t have a hope of getting him if Everton make the CL.

Lukakau will not sign for spurs , ultimatley the money will be around the same .
After yesterday his performance with Everton , thats where he stays . CL…..
Time we got a grip on things and start to work as a team not only on the pitch but the back office as well

@Al.H, this comes down to coaching. Sherwood has taken a Spurs side that was teetering on being a calibre side under Redknapp and then AvB, and he has fractured them. Levy has to ultimately take the blame, but that is only after the fact. He needed someone to steady the ship, and Sherwood has not done that, nor was there ever any inclination that he knew how to do it. This is why Spurs needs a quality, experienced head coach in Louis van Gaal. This is what Daniel Levy must do. This is only way to save this team, and give them hope for the the future.

As for Lukaku, Everton are the front runners. If they can come up with the money then he is as good as theirs.

Its really simple. We have a great striker in Adebeyour , I have no doubt Soldado will come good and score goals if played in the correct way, not as a lone striker or target man all players improve in their second season in the premiership he has pedigree and has shown glimpses most. Recently against Southampton where he looked hungry for it and a bit more confident. The 3rd striker role is the open one, we don’t need 4 strikers too many can cause unrest. We need a a particular type of striker …one that I feel we have 3 maybe 4 bites of the cherry to sign …lukaku …Benteke …Bony or Doumbia …surely we can get 1 of them. Then get a centre back to replace Dawson , bruno indis martins from holland would be my choice or maybe caulker again. Get a left back to replace Akotto and be first choice Daley blind from Ajax (surely Dutch players will be on the agenda if van gaal plays) definitely a right back to replace Naughton also then thats all we need.

Did u see his celebration with Martinez when he scored and at final whistle yesterday…. My thoughts r lukaku to Everton is a done deal! Regardless if the make champ league. Will Everton have the money to afford him is another question.
