Is this £32m man the missing piece in Arsenal’s jigsaw puzzle?

|

Diego CostaImagine what Arsenal could have achieved this season if they had more than one half-decent striker. Their midfield is among the best in the Premier League, but their options in the centre-forward positions are severely lacking. Theo Walcott’s injury has compounded issues. Arsenal’s striking options are sluggish, uninspiring and lacking in confidence.

Just look at how the likes of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero have carried their teams this season. This is what Arsenal are lacking at the moment.

That begs the question: who should Arsene Wenger look to sign to rectify this issue in the summer transfer window? Who will make up the last piece of Arsenal’s jigsaw puzzle?

How about long-term Arsenal target, Diego Costa, who has been making waves at Atletico Madrid this season? The Spanish international has scored an astounding 33 goals this season, leading his side towards the top of the La Liga table.

He’s also showcased a decent level of technical ability, diligence and intelligence throughout the season. He’d be an excellent addition to any top team. But as Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo is keen to point out, he won’t come cheap:

“He has been with us for many years. He has been in many other teams in Spain [on-loan] and wherever he has been they have spoken well of him. And that means one thing, the player is valuable. So everyone wants him.”

“He’ll be one of the top goalscorers this season and will shine for Spain in Brazil, I’m sure. He has quality and he deserves it, he has worked hard to get where he is.” (Source: The Star)

The Star also claim that the Brazilian striker has a £32m release clause written into his Madrid contract. I’d say that figure is somewhat below the player’s actual market value, so the time’s right for a club like Arsenal to swoop in and sign him up.

Unfortunately, Wenger is also likely to face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Signing him wont be easy.

But Arsenal can offer him regular football, whilst the other alternatives may not be able to promise him that. The Gunners also have Arsene Wenger in charge, who’s one of the most experienced managers still in the game. Who knows, if the Arsenal team offer him the right financial incentive, perhaps they can close the deal?

What’s your take? Is Diego Costa the man that Arsenal need to sign this summer?

Our failure is down to Wenger, he has much faith with Giroud. Wenger doesn’t want competation in the transfer market and thats why he always wait until the last minute deals after all the best players have bn bought. With wenger its always a ,( wait and see situation )

Arsen wenger will never sign him. I believe that he has never identify who to buy. Mourinho will not allow wenger to sign him. It happened on Eden harzad, harzad could been an arsenal players if not for sturbon wenger, Gilord has no ball control, his dribble ability is zero, the worst he doesn’ t shot on targets. I hate seeing him on arsenal Jessy. We need deadly stricker, Henry left arsenal and since then no replacement why???? Teams like Liverpool play two strikers and they get their result why wenger.????????

I think it is high time Wenger changed his attitude towards signing quality players. He can’t continue doing the same thing always, especially when things are not going well. I hope he realizes that.

am waiting for the day someone (arsenal board) will take A.W to task about his results at Arsenal. how can a team fighting for the top spot lose to Liverpool 5 and to Chealsea by 6 or so goals and most of them scored within the first 20 or so minutes and no one bothers to take him to task. A.W must understand he is responsible for his results and must be held accountable. at Arsenal we need an ambitious coach who will strenghten the team and not lose to top teams like we have. Mourinho was right to say A.W is a specialist in failure though most of us at Arsenal wouldn’t want to hear anything to that effect. our players do not have the fighting spirit to turn the tables around when chips are down like what we see from other teams Liverpool in particular. we know A.W protects his current squad but its time he brought in newproven players as this will encourage competition within the players. everyone knows Gilord will lye on his back after missing a scoring chance or hold his head while Suarez will score and celebrate given the same situation and yet he doesn’t want to buy a top striker. the wait will be longer before we win a league
