Have Arsenal already made their first summer signing?

Hertha BSC v 1. FC Nuernberg - BundesligaGoing into the game against Manchester City last weekend, most Arsenal fans felt a certain degree of trepidation. This was a side that had just lost 6-0 to Chelsea after all (not to mention a 6-3 defeat by City earlier in the season). The worry was that they’d suffer another humiliating defeat against the Premier League big boys.

In the end, the 1-1 draw came as something of a relief. In fact, The Gunners performed rather well in the second half of the game. Having said that, their lack of decent options upfront was telling. It comes to something when you’re relying on your defensive midfielder, Mathieu Flamini, to make all your forward runs.

Olivier Giroud is a good finisher on his day, but he’s also wildly inconsistent and he’s not much of a big game player.

Arsenal fans would thus have been excited to see The Metro report that Arsene Wenger has agreed to sign Nuremberg’s talented young striker, Josip Drmic.

He would be a typical Arsene Wenger signing: a relative unknown, with bags of pace, technical ability and the potential to develop into a world class footballer. At just 21-years-old, Drmic has scored 16 in 27 appearances for the Bundesliga side – that’s 47% of all of Nuremberg’s goals.

That’s a startling return for a young player. No wonder Arsenal are interested!

Unfortunately the player quickly moved to rubbish the rumours: “Right now I’m single. There is no one in London looking for a home.” (Source: The Star)

Not yet any way. Whether or not Arsenal will make a move remains to be seen, but it’s clear that this is a player who’s worth keeping tabs on.

Drmic has made it clear in the past that he fancies a move to The Emirates, claiming: “It would be every boy’s dream”. Now it’s up to Arsene Wenger and co. to make this dream come true.

As things currently stand Nuremberg are two points above the drop zone in the Bundesliga table. If they do get relegated, they’ll find it extremely difficult to keep hold of Drmic.

Arsenal may not have sealed the deal just yet, but let’s hope that he’s still on the club’s wishlist.

What’s your take? Would Josip Drmic be a good addition to this Arsenal squad?

    Damn right he would be.

  • Bhuda says:

Wenger is a genius without doubt but the lack of balance in the Arsenal squad is of his own doing because he relies too much in creative players to score.if he can get two 20 goals per season strikers i have no doubt he can win the league.

  • Emmanuel says:

If he has such great pace and technical abilities, with the potential to develop into a world class player, as you have described him, I would welcome him wholeheartedly to Arsenal. Who knows, he may develop into another Thierry Henry.
