Will Spurs struggle to keep hold of Hugo Lloris?

Hugo LlorisTottenham may have lost Gareth Bale last summer, but they’ve still got one of the best players in the world (in their position) tucked away within their squad. The man I’m speaking of is Hugo Lloris, Spurs’ super talented stopper, who has been in sparkling form ever since moving to the Premier League back in 2012.

Lloris cost Spurs between 10 and 15m euros and has already managed to provide good value for that price tag. In his first season he made 15 appearances and kept 9 clean sheets. This season he’s been even more ever present and has helped to keep Spurs in a number of games that they probably should have lost or drawn.

Back in November 2013, he also suffered an unfortunate collision with Romelu Lukaku’s knee during a clash with Everton. This caused him to lose consciousness. When he came too he opted to play on, a decision that was widely criticized but also demonstrated his character and perseverance.

Suffice to say, he’s an integral part of this Tottenham side. If Tim Sherwood’s boys are to progress, get better and clamber up the Premier League table, they’ll need to keep hold of this unique goalkeeping talent. Letting him go would be a big mistake.

Unfortunately, given Lloris’ talent and ability, he’s sure to have plenty of suitors. In fact, The Mirror claim that Atletico Madrid have been eyeing him up as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois. If the stories are true, then Tottenham’s resolve could be put to the test this summer.

As La Liga title competitors, Madrid may provide some appeal to Hugo Lloris. There’s a good chance that the Spanish side will be in the Champions League next season, but there’s still a big question mark over Tottenham’s European future. It’s easy enough to see why a player would have their head turned.

It’s up to Tim Sherwood and co. to make sure Lloris doesn’t get distracted. If the Frenchman feels that he has a good chance of winning something with Spurs, there’s a fair chance that he wont start pining for a move away.

At 27-years-old, he has many good years left ahead of him. I just hope that they’re at White Hart Lane.

What’s your take? Will Spurs have any trouble keeping hold of Hugo Lloris?
