Arturo VidalManchester United fans will have hoped that Juan Mata would have made a more immediate impact at Old Trafford. After all, a £37m price-tag comes with a certain level of expectation.

But such is the extent of Manchester United’s current crisis of confidence, that even somebody with as much talent as Mata can’t turn things around. If United are to clamber back up the Premier League table, they’ll need to transform their entire outlook and bring in further world-class footballers.

As such, the summer is set to be a very important time for Manchester United. David Moyes will have plenty of money to spend and will need to make sure outgoing players are replaced with quality options. He needs to be a lot better prepared for next year than he was this time round.

It’s not like the club won’t be able to attract top talent. In fact, The Mirror even claim that United are in the hunt for Juventus’ £40m rated superstar, Arturo Vidal. Yes, they note that sealing the deal wont be easy, as The Old Lady are eager to keep him (and Real Madrid are also circling), but the fact they’re in the running is very exciting indeed.

At 26-years-old, Vidal is just entering his peak and has earned a reputation for being one of the best midfielders in Serie A. He’s an energetic footballer, who moves the ball about with pace, loves to dart forward and can make things happen in the final third. I can’t help but feel that he’d be the perfect counter-balance to Juan Mata.

He’s also an experienced individual, with 45 caps for Chile and plenty of game-time at a top club. In other words, he’s earned his price-tag.

Whether Manchester United can afford to take Real Madrid on remains to be seen. What’s clear, however, is that The Red Devils need Vidal a lot more than Madrid do. I’m sure they’d also be able to make promises regarding game time that the La Liga side couldn’t.

If United are genuinely interested in the player, they could be able to make a deal happen. Let’s just hope they get a free run at him.

What’s your take? Should David Moyes be in the market for Arturo Vidal? Are there other less expensive options out there?
