Paul PogbaPaul Pogba is a player who has courted his fair share of controversy over the years. This is despite being just 20-years-old.

Think back to when he first moved to Manchester United. In 2009 the Frenchman had been set to sign a long-term deal with Le Havre, but let his paymasters down at the last minute, saw dollars signs and decided to move to Old Trafford. Le Havre were so incensed that they asked FIFA to probe the situation. It got pretty ugly.

Once he was at Manchester United, it didn’t take him long to fall out with Sir Alex Ferguson. Pogba was hungry for as much game time as possible, whilst Sir Alex wanted to ease him into the big game. Paul Pogba wasn’t willing to wait, acted out and basically forced a move away from the club. In July 2012 he moved to Juventus where his career has gone from strength to strength.

He’s now made 67 appearances for the Serie A side and scored 12 goals. All his quality now seems to be coming to the fore. He’s a genuinely powerful presence, with great technique, creative flair and a real footballing brain. In December 2013 Pogba was named 2013’s Golden Boy a title awarded to the best young players in Europe. This was well earned.

Manchester United lost a quality player through mismanagement. The way that the club is struggling this season, I think it’s fair to say that they could have used somebody with his quality.

As it happens, CaughtOffside recently linked Paul Pogba with a move back to Old Trafford. Things sure do change quickly in the footballing world, don’t they? They also slap a £30m price-tag on Pogba, which is a lot of money, but not outside of The Red Devil’s financial wheelhouse.

Whilst some may feel that Pogba burnt his bridges with Manchester United, I’m not sure that’s the case. It’s more like he burnt his bridges with Sir Alex Ferguson, who’s no longer manager at the club.

Since leaving Old Trafford Paul Pogba has made it quite clear that he’s good enough to compete at the very top level. Getting him back would be a very smart move indeed, even if doing so would effectively amount to Manchester United eating a healthy dose of humble pie.

Let’s hope that David Moyes is ready to get his fill.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United attempt to tempt Paul Pogba back to the club?
