Edinson CavaniHaving just spent £37m on Juan Mata, it’ll be fascinating to see what David Moyes does next.

The Spaniard hasn’t really made much of an impact at Manchester United yet, but given his quality, it’s bound to just be a matter of time. Juan Mata is one of the few players in the Premier League who is worthy of that kind of price-tag. The more players of his ilk that move to Old Trafford, the better.

As it happens, there’s bound to be plenty of further change (and a fair share of turmoil) in the summer. It’ll be interesting to see whether Moyes moves in for another midfielder. He’ll also have his work cut out for him when it comes to fixing his aging defence and sorting out the futures of his strikers.

As The Metro notes, the futures of all of Manchester United’s current centre-forwards are shrouded in a cloud of question marks. You never quite know what Wayne Rooney will get up to, Robin Van Persie looks somewhat dissatisfied, whilst Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez can’t be happy with being bit part players.

Here’s a bombshell for you. The same source suggests that Manchester United have already sounded out Edinson Cavani, Paris Saint Germain’s superstar striker, over a summer transfer to Old Trafford.

If there’s any truth to these claims, it’s very exciting news indeed. Cavani is one of the very best strikers in world football, up there with the likes of Radamel Falcao, Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero. Whilst he doesn’t share the immaculate technique of players like Suarez, he’s a powerful presence, works hard and has pure finishing ability.

Since moving to France in the summer, Cavani has already replicated his Serie A form. In 25 games the man has found the back of the net 20 times. He simply can’t be stopped.

As is often the case, this kind of quality comes with one hell of a price-tag. Cavani cost PSG £53m in the summer and would certainly cost Manchester United more, were they to make their interest a little more concrete.

With that in mind, it’ll be fascinating to see whether David Moyes can compete for players of this kind of stature. If he can, then he’ll surely set the club back on the path to glory.

What’s your take? Can Manchester United compete for Edinson Cavani?

Cavani or Costa?. No contest for me as Costa’s goalscoring is only recent whereas Cavani’s has been prolific for some time. Besides Cavani’s goal scoring, his workrate in midfield and defence is phenominal and mirrors Rooney in many ways and if these 2 were in the same team, how would defences stop them or United?
The big problem though is Moyes. He talks big but as yet has not proved he can buy big and I include Mata in that as his price was only ‘normal’ for nowadays and nothing in the world class bracket.
Cavani though would change all that, so let’s see what develops but if United mess around as they did last Summer, it will be all wishful thinking and very little else, in which case heads should roll!
