Is this Russian superstar Manchester United’s ‘top transfer target’?

Alan DzagoevI expect we’ll see Manchester United get linked to a number of players between now and the end of the season. They are, after all, a club that is in need of transformation.

Whilst I feel like this change needs to come at the very top of the club, there’s a good chance that David Moyes will continue to receive the backing of the board. As such, United will have to take to the transfer market in order to facilitate their turnaround.

David Moyes has already signed Juan Mata, which looks like a step in the right direction, but United will need more players like this if they’re to start climbing back up the Premier League table.

Since Mata’s arrival at Old Trafford, he’s looked a little bemused by his team-mate’s lack of application and their failure to get the basics right against relegation fodder. Whilst Mata has hardly impressed himself, it doesn’t help that he’s joining a team that is out of form and out of confidence.

He needs to be surrounded with positive players, who work hard, perform well and have proper pedigree.

This brings me to Sports Direct News‘ claim that Manchester United are interested in signing CSKA Moscow star, Alan Dzagoev. This, I think, is exciting news. The same source describes Dzagoez as a ‘top transfer target’ for David Moyes.

At just 23-years-old, Alan Dzagoev has received an award for ‘Best Young Player’ in the Russian League and broken into the international team (he’s already got 29 caps to his name!).

United fans may remember Dzagoev scoring against their club during a Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow, where he squeezed in a goal from a tight angle during a 3-3 draw in November 2009.

Since then he’s got better and better. This season he’s played 23 games and has already found the back of the net 7 times. That’s a fairly healthy return for an attacking midfielder.

In other words, he’s a player who’s going places. Let’s just hope that one of those places is Old Trafford. I can’t help but feel that he’d be a very smart addition to this squad.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Alan Dzagoev make a move to Manchester United?
