Should Manchester United be interested in Bayern Munich’s 15th best paid player?

Toni Kroos 2Whilst a draw with Arsenal is hardly anything to right home about, it’s definitely a marked improvement over Manchester United’s recent string of results. A defeat against Stoke City and a draw with Fulham (thanks to a late equaliser, no less) may well have brought Manchester United to an all time low.

After all, David Moyes has just spent a truckload of cash (£37m to be precise) on Juan Mata and the fact that this hasn’t turned the club around has come as something of a surprise. The Red Devils look just as bad with the Spaniard as they were without him. The odd moment of brilliance aside, Mata has hardly fit neatly into this squad.

There’s clearly a lot more work to be done here. When the summer rolls by, David Moyes will have to do some major spending in the transfer market if he’s to steady the ship.

That raises the question: who should Manchester United be looking at?

One player who has been linked strongly to the Red Devils is Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos. He was linked with a move to Old Trafford last January, but never signed on the dotted line. Maybe this will change in the summer?

The Mirror claim that this move is definitely still on the cards. They also note that Kroos earns just £3.6m a year (when I say ‘just’, I’m speaking relatively), whilst fellow Bayern stars Mario Gotze and Franck Ribery are on a £9m salary. In fact, Kroos is the 15th best paid player at the Bundesliga champions. Whilst he’s still being paid handsomely, he may feel a little hard done by at the Allianz Arena.

The same source also notes that Manchester United would have no issue with offering Kroos a pay rise. If the German international is interested in moving to the Premier League, the Red Devils may well welcome him with open arms.

He wont come cheap, but quality never does. Toni Kroos is a bundle of energy, who both works hard and displays plenty of talent. He’s a tidy player, who looks comfortable on the ball, specialises in neat, short passes and can be effective in the final third. The thought  of him playing alongside Juan Mata is somewhat mouthwatering. Let’s hope that David Moyes can make it happen.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United continue to pursue Juan Mata?
