Should Liverpool splash the cash on these THREE potential signings?

Mohamed SalahLiverpool’s good start to the season was largely due to Brendan Rodger’s good work during the summer transfer window (and the January transfer window prior to that).

Whilst you can’t account for the progress that Jordan Henderson has made this season (alongside Aaron Ramsey he’s probably the Premier League’s most improved player), signing players like Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have revolutionised the club.

Then there’s Mamadou Sahko, a player who will doubtless be the heart of this Liverpool defence for years to come.

Unfortunately for the Reds, they seem to have dropped off the pace a little bit over the Christmas period. They’ve had some tough games and haven’t quite been able to match the competition.

It certainly wouldn’t surprise me, therefore, if Brendan Rodgers were to work a little more of his magic during the January transfer window. As it happens, The Mirror claims that Liverpool are hoping to make three additions to their squad. That’s right, three!

The players in question are ‘the Egyptian Messi’, Mohamed Salah, Sevilla midfield ace Ivan Rakitic and Barcelona back-up right-back, Martin Montoya.

We’ve already had a good long look at Salah in the Champions League. The 21-year-old has pace to spare, ability on the ball and an eye for goal (he has scored 10 goals in 29 games thus far this season). But it’s his quick feet and sharp footballing brain that are most impressive. It’s thought that he currently commands a £10m price-tag. If he is genuinely available at this price, then Liverpool should snap him up.

Ivan Rakitic is another man who had impressed this season. He’s only made 22 appearances thus far, but he’s chipped in with 9 goals and 5 assists from the centre of the park. That’s a fairly handy return. At 25-years-old, he’s just about to hit his peak. With Liverpool needing some midfield inspiration, a move for Rakitic would probably be a good step forward.

Then there’s Martin Montoya, the least essential of the three potential signings. The Spaniard has been making his mark for the Barcelona B team since 2009 (75 appearances in total). Unfortunately he’s been unable to make the step up to the first team.

I can’t really see why Liverpool would be interested in this one. Sure, he could blossom into something special, but shouldn’t Brendan Rodgers move in for somebody a little more tried and tested?

Oh well, two out of three ain’t bad. And should Brendan managed to sign these two, then who knows what Liverpool could achieve? They could well be ready to make a genuine stab at the Premier League title this season.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Liverpool move in for this trio? Would you like to see Mohamed Salah, Ivan Rakitic or Martin Montoya at Anfield?

ahhh if we got these three I would be in dreamland , only a fee of 18 million and every position would have depth ; Montoya plays rb and lb , rakatic play cm and cam , and Selah plays lw,lm,rw and CAM . Top for would be ours and Montoya is a fantastic player gets forward and defends even better would challenge and improve Johnson if not taking his place altogether

Mark my words, with or without any additional signings, Liverpool must win the league. Today is 4th of January 2014, Liverpool management will invite me for a dinner in May 2014.

Salah and rakitic are okay,a defensive midfielder would be more appropriate in place of montoya.but i really doubt if the cash would be available.

  • stan says:

montoya can never be an upgrade to enrique, flanagan and cissoko. Its johnsons place at stake, yet monto is no beta dan johnson. Get a DM instead, a black guy. They re d best @ it.

  • henry says:
