Can Arsenal afford to lose BOTH these midfielders?

Tomas RosickyArsenal may have ended the year at the top of the Premier League table, but fans will be all too aware that there is a long way to go yet. With Manchester City on the rampage at the moment, winning the title this season remains a massive challenge.

As such, Arsene Wenger needs to make sure that he’s got the right personnel for the job. If this means ditching the deadwood to free up space on the wage bill for new signings, then so be it (Nicklas Bendtner, I’m looking at you).

I’m sure that most will be more interested in hearing who Arsenal are thinking about bringing in this January, but I’m equally excited to see who is going to move on this January. It strikes me that the midfield could use a bit of streamlining (to help free up spaces in the squad for more strikers).

As it happens, The Mirror suggests that Arsene Wenger is considering cutting ties with two players, one on a temporary basis and one on a permanent basis. The two players in question are the talented Serge Gnabry and Little Mozart himself, Tomas Rosicky.

At 33-years-old, I can certainly understand why there is so much speculation regarding the future of Czech midfielder Rosicky. Yes, he’s still producing good performances this season and he hasn’t lost his love of a good slide tackle, but he’s now approaching the autumn of his career. With Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey running the show at the Emirates, I’m not sure that Rosicky is really needed.

That’s not to say that we won’t wish him well when he moves on. It’s thought that he could be on his way to the USA or Standard Liege during an upcoming transfer window.

This brings me to Serge Gnabry, a player who has made great progress this season, but could probably use more game-time. The Mirror suggests that Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a loan move to a Championship club for the youngster. This could be an important step forward in his career.

He’d be offered regular football, in a fast paced, intense environment. There also wouldn’t be too much pressure on his shoulders. He’d be given an opportunity to turn on the flair, show what he can do and come back to the Emirates brimming with confidence.

Arsenal have more than enough options in their current squad to account for the absence of both players. Either way, I’ll be fascinated to see what Arsene Wenger gets up to this January.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal send Serge Gnabry out on loan and cut ties with Tomas Rosicky?
