Can Manchester United really compete for this £30m sensation?

KokeIt’s beginning to look like Manchester United are getting back on track. After a tough start to their season, Danny Welbeck appears to be firing the club back up the table. Indeed, it’s thanks to him, Wayne Rooney and some staunch defending, that United are still in with a chance of claiming a top four slot this season.

We’ve already seen that this year is going to be more competitive than ever at the top of the Premier League table. This, combined with Manchester United’s lack of midfield creativity means that David Moyes needs to do everything he can to keep the momentum up.

As such, we’ll all be watching intently to see what the club does during the January transfer window. Fans will certainly have their fingers crossed that David Moyes loosens the purse strings and spends big.

More importantly, they’ll hope that he spends big on the right player. He’s already made one large investment on a player and that didn’t turn out so swell. Marouane Fellaini has been slow to make his mark at Old Trafford and probably isn’t a player that the club really needed.

Leighton Baines has been a long-term transfer target for the club, but it’s beginning to look like that’s not going to happen. Check out these quotes from Everton manager, Roberto Martinez: “I can guarantee that Leighton Baines will be here at the end of the season. That is 100 percent. Bryan Oviedo has been terrific while Baines has been injured, but we will need them both.”

Oh well. What Manchester United really need, is a player who can provide a bit of cut and thrust from the midfield. As it happens, The Mirror claims that Manchester United have already put in a mammoth £30m bid for Atletico Madrid playmaker, Koke.

That’s a lot of money to spend on one 21-year-old. But the youngster has proven his credentials over the last couple of seasons. He’s now one of Madrid’s best players (alongside Diego Costa) and has the vision and passing ability to provide Manchester United with the cutting edge they need.

There’s simply no telling exactly how good Koke could become over the coming years. The Spaniard is already world-class but could become something really special should he move to a club in the European elite (no offense to Atletico Madrid, who are undoubtedly a top club). I’d love to see him providing service to the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and yes, Danny Welbeck.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United test Everton’s resolve when it comes to Leighton Baines? Should they really spend £30m on Koke?

the first thing united need to do now is to sign a creative midfielder and that should be koke then other thing should follow.

Why leighton baines? Another mediocre and aged target. DM is shortsighted – can’t he see there are many better and younger left back. Even Fabio should be allowed to bloom. I think the manager is an Everton loyalist and should be immediately sacked to save MU from further agony. He is a failure.
