Would this £7.5m ace be a good addition for Liverpool?

Kostas MitroglouAfter a couple of minor blips for Liverpool things now seem to be well and truly back on course. That’s largely thanks to the leadership of Brendan Rodgers and the ineffable quality of Luis Suarez.

Somehow this pairing (along with help from a few key players) has managed to rejuvenate this struggling club. The fact that Liverpool are currently in the position to compete for the Premier League title more-or-less speaks for itself.

Rodgers spent his first year in charge operating as a laughing stock. But boy has he proven his critics wrong.

Now it’s up to him to keep the momentum going. It’s up to him to prove that Liverpool are in this for the long-run.

The best way to pull this act of, is to build on the good work he did over the summer. One or two smart additions in the January transfer window could make all the difference when it comes to the end of the season.

In particular, I’d love to see Liverpool move in for Greek goal-machine, Kostas Mitroglou. The Olympiacos centre-forward is also a target for Arsenal (according to The Mirror), who are certainly in need of signing a striker.

Whilst Liverpool’s need isn’t quite so pressing, it may still be a good move for the club.

Daniel Sturridge is in the middle of a long injury lay-off and may struggle to quickly find his fitness once he has recovered. What if he’s not as effective when he returns? Liverpool have a great forward line, but adding a little more competition to it certainly won’t hurt.

Mitroglou has been in sensational form this season, scoring 22 goals for both club and country. The man is truly deadly in front of goal, has an excellent touch and links up well with his midfield. He’d be a real catch.

He’s also affordable. It’s thought that an offer of around £7.5m could be enough to tempt Olympiacos to sell. Liverpool spent a lot of money over the summer, but hopefully they can afford to negotiate one more deal.

Signing a player of this quality could well be the difference between a successful season and another season in the footballing wilderness.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool be interested in Kostas Mitroglou, or leave him for Arsenal?

He’s just signed a contract extension with Olympiacos within the last couple of days…keep up ‘Arry. As such IF he does become available it certainly won’t be for £7.5 million anymore.
