Javier PastoreThere’s no doubting the craft, endeavour or out-right talent of Arsenal’s impeccable midfield. The likes of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil are among world-football’s very best. Heck, somehow Aaron Ramsey has transformed himself into the Premier League’s preeminent midfielder this season.

But would it really surprise you if Arsene Wenger were to sign another creative midfielder during the January transfer window? The Frenchman is positively obsessed with players in this mould.

What Arsenal really need is a striker. Olivier Giroud looks knackered, whilst Nicklas Bendtner hasn’t performed at the top level for a number of years. I can’t help but hope that Wenger opts to bring in a world-class centre-forward during the January transfer window.

But if he elects to sign a top-class midfielder like Javier Pastore, I certainly won’t complain.

According to The Star, Arsenal are currently mulling over a move for the PSG star. The Ligue 1 ace was signed for almost £40m back in 2011, but has struggled over the last couple of seasons.

Nowadays he doesn’t always get into Laurent Blanc’s starting line-up and often finds himself overshadowed by world-beaters like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani.

But Pastore was a world-beater himself not so long ago. In his last season at Palermo (2010-11), the Argentine scored 14 goals and notched 7 assists in 44 games. In his first season in France, he did even better, scoring 16 goals and assisting his team-mates 8 times.

Unfortunately, his stats have decreased alongside his game-time. But if he were to seek out new surroundings, earn another manager’s confidence and find his feet again, he’d represent a real catch. At just 24-years-old, he’s certainly got plenty of time to settle into his career.

Given Arsene Wenger’s propensity for signing players like Pastore, I’m sure that he could be tempted by the Argentine. His price-tag is likely to have decreased over the last couple of years and PSG are thought to be collecting funds to help see through a move for Chelsea’s Juan Mata.

Pastore would be yet another exciting addition to this Arsenal side. If he were to arrive at the Emirates alongside a top striker this January, then who knows what the Gunners could be capable of? Perhaps they could even give the fans something to celebrate come the end of the season.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be interested in Javier Pastore, or do they have more pressing concerns?

a striker is more important at this moment we need some one week in week out to keep putting the ball in the net why not play a different formation with wallcott and giroud up front.
