Robert LewandowskiWe all know what Manchester United’s priority should be in the January transfer window. I know, you know, your neighbour knows. More importantly, every club in world football will know.

Manchester United need to sign a technically minded, gifted, creative midfielder. Unfortunately these kind of players are hard to come by. They’ll cost a pretty penny and any club involved will know that United are willing to pay top dollar, given their current need.

Given the corner United have backed themselves into, I’d love to see David Moyes get a little creative with his January spending. Getting the club out of its current slump is going to take a little bravery, some gambling and some top new signings.

So yes, bring in a midfielder. But why not also consider signing a top striker?

Robin Van Persie’s career long injury problems seem to have re-surfaced this season. What’s more, the Dutchman is getting on in years. Given the stop-start nature of his professional career, it really wouldn’t surprise me if his joints were beginning to ache and his game to slow down. Yes, he’s never exactly been reliant on pace, but his magic feet may not be quite so powerful from here on out.

Oh and what about Wayne Rooney? Manchester United’s main man always looks fired-up on the football pitch, but it’s not like his commitment to the club is beyond question. If Chelsea or another top club swooped in, who’s to say that he wouldn’t try to force his way out of Old Trafford once more. He’s too much of a wild cannon and David Moyes simply can’t afford to rely on him.

Whilst I’m a big fan of Javier Hernandez, he hasn’t had regular football for some time. There’s no guarantee he can still provide the goods over the course of a long season. Then there’s Danny Welbeck, who isn’t exactly slamming home the goals.

So I’d say there is a need for another striker at the club. Which is why I’m disappointed to see that United have put an end to their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker, Robert Lewandowski. (Source: The Star)

Lewandowski is one of Europe’s best strikers. He’s also in excellent form at this moment in time. This is the kind of player that United used to go in for, regardless of need. David Moyes would be foolish not to consider him.

Signing Robert Lewandowski would not prevent Moyes from also signing a creative midfielder. It would also improve the squad exponentially.

So why aren’t Manchester United still battling for his signature?

What’s your take? Should David Moyes continue to chase Robert Lewandowski?
