Why Arsenal and Chelsea should steer clear of this Premier League starlet:

Saido BerahinoDo you remember when your £850-a-week salary was about to be upgraded to £7,000-a-week? No, we don’t either.

Regardless, West Brom starlet Saido Berahino is slap-bang in the middle of that very situation. Given the way that Berahino has risen to prominence this season, I’m not surprised that the Baggies have tried to agree new terms with him.

His current deal makes him one of the lowest-earning players in the Premier League. Given the fact that he’s scored six goals in four games for the England U21s (all of his teammates will be earning ten times more than him) and a winner against Manchester United in a Premier League fixture earlier this season, this is patently unfair.

The man deserves a bigger pay-packet. But apparently the youngster wants more than the £7,000-a-week that the Baggies’ top brass have offered.

According to The Mirror, this has opened the door for Arsenal and Chelsea to make their move. It’s thought that both clubs are watching the proceedings carefully, ready to make their move should the opportunity arise.

This strikes me as rather odd. Both Arsenal and Chelsea need a striker. That’s clear for everybody to see. But they don’t need Berahino.

As good as the young man is, he hasn’t proven himself on a big stage yet. What’s more, he needs to prove that he’s capable of producing the goods week in and week out. If he’s still wowing the crowd next season, then interest from the Gunners could well be justified.

Both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho will be on the hunt for a world-class striker this January. Somebody with a proven track record. Somebody who can come in and make them title winners this year.

Suffice to say, I hope Berahino is able to keep his ego in check. He certainly has a big future ahead of him, but for now, staying at West Brom is the best move for his career.

He’ll be given regular game time, become a fan favourite and could well get some opportunities in the England first team too.

With that in mind, should the Baggies offer him slightly better terms than the deal currently on the table, I hope he goes for it.

What’s your take? is Saido Berahino good enough to play for Arsenal or Chelsea? Should he wait before making a move to a top club?

100% bs article. I have it on very good authority (I mean that!) that the young lad will be signing a deal at WBA within a few days time for nearly £15k a week. Which given his age and very limited first team experience is actually pretty good. Just as well because going to Arsenal or Chelsea and then not playing at all for the next three years would have done him no favours at all anyway. Now, cut out the fiction, these stories do no favours to your credibility.

He’s already at a top club, these so called big clubs are only at the top courtesy of ego inflated oil rich buffoons with money to burn. This should be stopped and the league would more competitive instead of ibeing a procession like F1. Berahino could be a legend like cyrille Regis if he stays. West brom is a proper football not plastic like the money hawks
