Could Manchester United really sign one of the world’s top midfielders for free?

Andres IniestaThere were a whole hoard of disappointed Manchester United fans last summer when David Moyes failed to sign a creative midfielder. Whilst he did add Marouane Fellaini to the squad, this did little to placate the Old Trafford faithful.

But his failure to bring anybody in could yet turn into a blessing. If you believe the following story, United could be about to sign one of the world’s best midfielders.

Arsenal surprised everybody by signing Real Madrid superstar Mesut Ozil last season. It was a signing that seems to have breathed fresh life into the Gunners. But David Moyes could be about to one-up them.

According to The Star, United are keen to snap up Andres Iniesta. That should be impossible right? Apparently not: The midfield maestro is out of contract at the end of the season and it’s beginning to look like he may not agree new terms.

It’s thought that money could be the main stumbling block for Barcelona. Iniesta has been a faithful servant for Barcelona since 2001. That’s 12 years. He apparently feels the club owes him more and Barca aren’t ready to cough up.

This means that there’s a genuine chance that Andres Iniesta could be available for free this summer.

Given the lack of creativity currently at the heart of United’s midfield, it goes without saying that Manchester United should be sniffing around. There are few footballers in the world who can boast the same passing range, speed and accuracy. He’s also extremely hard to dispossess and he’s dangerous around the penalty area.

He’d be a definite step up on the likes of Michael Carrick, Shinji Kagawa and new boy Marouane Fellaini. In fact, he’s the kind of player who could transform Manchester United back into title contenders.

Yes he’s going to demand a huge wage packet, but there’s little doubting that he’s worthy of it. What’s more, United wouldn’t have to pay any transfer fee. Isn’t this something of a no-brainer?

David Moyes may have failed to sign Cesc Fabregas last summer, but should he agree a deal for Andres Iniesta, all will be forgiven.

What’s your take? Could United really wrap up a deal for Barcelona ace Andres Iniesta? How much would he improve this Manchester United side?
