Can Spurs really pull off a deal for this Manchester United superstar?

Javier HernandezDespite having spent big on Roberto Soldado over the summer transfer window, Spurs have been caught out time and time again due to a lack of cut and thrust going forward. Whilst the Spaniard arrived at White Hart Lane with a big reputation, patience now seems to be wearing thin.

It turns out his movement isn’t quite as good as it was first thought, he’s easily out-muscled and he’s not the deadly force in front of goal that we all hoped he could be. Sure he’s impressed on the odd occasion, but it’s not quite enough to pin a season on.

Now I realise this criticism is deeply unfair. He’s still new to English football and deserves time to adapt. But following the sale of Gareth Bale, Spurs needed somebody who could come in a produce consistent performances instantly. World-class players are capable of doing exactly that. Unfortunately, Soldado just hasn’t pulled it off.

And it’s not like Emmanuel Adebayor or Jermaine Defoe (who has been okay this season, to be fair), provide any long-term hope for the future.

I sincerely hope that Andre Villas-Boas didn’t sink Tottenham’s entire transfer budget over the summer. Spurs desperately need to go out into the transfer window and snap up another striker.

This raises the question: who should they be targeting?

How about Manchester United’s criminally underused striker, Javier Hernandez (Source: The Mirror)? Despite the limited game-time available to him at Old Trafford, I’m still convinced that the Mexican is one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Many column inches have been spent waxing lyrical about his mobility, pace, touch and control. But it’s his finishing ability that most stands out for me. Despite only being used as a bit-part player, he’s managed to maintain performance levels and find a way of being effective. Isn’t that exactly what Tottenham need now?

Hernandez should be enjoying the best years of his career, but instead he’s out there on the sidelines watching Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie have all the fun. I’m sure if an ambitious club like Spurs went in for him, he’d consider moving.

Manchester United wont be keen to see him go, but it’s not like they can offer him much reason to stay. If Daniel Levy pulls on his negotiation socks, I’m sure Spurs will find their way to another top signing.

What’s your take? Can Spurs engineer a deal for Javier Hernandez?

Why would we want him? Not good enough and not the type of striker we need

    • Mike says:

I’d swap him for Soldado any day.
He will score more goals coming off the bench this season than our man will playing the full 90 mins.
I hate to say this but unless we can afford a top class striker in the window we will finish lower than last year.

yeah, to me ,since he is not having enough playing time I believe he may consider a move away from old Trafford inorder to get enough playing time
