Does Jose have any justification for sending Romelu Lukaku out on loan?

Romelu LukakuUnsurprisingly, Chelsea fans have been up in arms about Jose Mourinho’s decision to send Romelu Lukaku out on loan on deadline day.

Whilst Lukaku has been banging home the goals in an Everton shirt, Chelsea’s strikers have struggled to find the back of the net on numerous occasions.

It’s only natural that the fans would question Jose Mourinho’s decision making process. The situation with Juan Mata more or less proves that Mourinho isn’t as in charge as he likes to think.

He’s also fallible and capable of making mistakes. And I do think that both the Mata situation and the Lukaku situation have to go down as grievous errors of judgement.

That’s despite the strikers claims to the contrary. Lukaku spoke recently about his move to Goodison Park and suggested that Jose Mourinho was not at fault:

“I did not know if I would be playing for Chelsea so I asked the manager to let me leave. We spoke and I told him. It’s unfair to criticise Mourinho for letting me go because it was my decision.

He knows what he is doing. He has won so many titles and I have too much respect for him to wish anything but the best, but there comes a point where you must think about yourself to show everyone that you can shine and be one of the best strikers in the league.” (Source: The Mirror)

That’s all well and good. We know Jose Mourinho’s credentials. We know that he’s a good manager. But he still would have had the option to turn down Lukaku’s request to go out on loan.

He could have told the player that he would get opportunities this season. Given the current state of the squad, I don’t think it would have been an inaccurate claim.

When Arsenal tried to get Demba Ba on loan on deadline day, Jose Mourinho stepped in and vetoed the move. He should have done the same thing with Romelu Lukaku and Everton.

Lukaku’s quotes are well-meaning, but won’t provide fans with any sense of closure. I still can’t quite fathom why he’s not playing his football at Stamford Bridge this season.

I only hope that the decision to let Romelu Lukaku go out on loan doesn’t come back to bite the club on the ass at the end of the season.

What’s your take? Is there any justification for sending Romelu Lukaku out on loan?
