If Madrid come in for Luis Suarez should Liverpool sell?

Luis SuarezLuis Suarez sure has put Liverpool through the wringer over the last couple of seasons.

Whether he’s getting himself embroiled in racism sagas, taking a bite out of a fellow professional’s arm or challenging the resolve of fans by trying to force a move away from the club, Luis Suarez never veers too far away from trouble.

But over the last year, he has always managed to produce the goods on the pitch. He’s a fantastic player and a real star. The way he’s eased his way back into this Liverpool team, after so long out of the game is extremely impressive.

He’s now an established Premier League goal-scorer and is one of the smartest, fleet-footed forwards in the world. In that sense, Liverpool are lucky to have him.

But whether they’ll have him for much longer is certainly up for debate. There’s a good chance that he’ll be subject to some attention during the January transfer window.

Arsenal tried to sign him last summer (by putting in a laughable £40m plus £1 bid) and could come back in for him this January. Then there’s Real Madrid, who are also rumoured to be interested in Luis Suarez.

Helpfully, Edinson Cavani, Suarez’s Uruguay strike partner, has attempted to clear up the situation:

“I am sure Liverpool fans are very happy Luis stayed – he will be a big player for them. I think Arsenal was not Luis’s dream move, maybe if it had been Real Madrid then it would have been a different outcome – but of course Madrid were concentrating on a different target this summer. It is his dream club – and a club he thinks is worth waiting for.” (Source: The Mail)

In many ways, Cavani is simply confirming what many of us already know. Luis Suarez is desperate for a move to Real Madrid.

Arsenal aren’t known for their willingness to splash the cash (and they’ve only just spent £42.4m on Mesut Ozil). Real Madrid on the other hand, may have the capital to make a deal happen.

And should they come in with a decent offer, then I think the time is right for Liverpool to sell.

There’s no doubting that Luis Suarez is a world class footballer. But he’s also a big nuisance. Using the money from Suarez’s sale to bring in more world class footballers could be just the ticket.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool cash-in on Luis Suarez?

I would say it’s more up to Luis. If he leads us to the Champions League then he may want to stay and enjoy the fruits of his labours. If he does go it should be for over 75 million pounds. They have made their bed with paying 85 for the lesser player in Bale.

  • David says:

AFC insulted us by the offers made in the summer. If Bale is worth £85m then Suarez is on a par with that. I have always wanted him sold so if a huge bid is made in January it should be accepted. If not then I hope he keeps his word & helps LFC to a top 4 place. If we qualify for the CL top players will want to come to us which will then allow us to sell Suarez & use the money from his sale to buy them. Whilst he remains with us our reputation will continue to be besmirched. Good riddance to him I say!

i woulnt sell him unless the come up with same money they did for bale then we will see how much they want him

Luis Suarez is one of the best in the world so if Madrid can cash 100m OK Liverpool can think about it.but less than that’ let Madrid come and buy me to play for them.

Right or wrong we should not have endured what goes with Suarez, yes he’s an amazing player but we ‘the supporters’ are paying him amazing wages.

Anything more than £60m would do me. He’s at peak value. I’d buy Lukaku, Benteke and the closest thing to Yaya Toure with the change 🙂

  • Marshall says:

Anything upwards of £55mill sell him otherwise let him sulk till the contract is complete…
