Is it time for Liverpool to finally close this £18m deal?

Christian EriksenBy now, Liverpool fans must be a little tired of hearing the name ‘Christian Eriksen’. The youngster has been linked with a move to Anfield countless times over the last year and a half, but nothing has come of these stories. So far there’s been a lot of flirting and much batting of eyelashes, but Eriksen still isn’t any closer to becoming an Liverpool player.

This, in itself, surprises me. We know that Brendan Rodgers had his head turned by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, an all-action, goal-scoring midfielder (who ended up moving to Borussia Dortmund) earlier this summer. Christian Eriksen is a player in a similar mould, but I’d argue the Danish youngster has more technical ability.

What’s more, at just 21-years-old, Eriksen is only likely to get better and better. Who knows exactly how good he’ll be in two-or-three years time. Should he join the Reds, there’s every chance he’ll develop into a firm fan favourite.

I appreciate that many fans will feel that Joe Allen deserves a second chance to prove himself with this Liverpool side. Signing Eriksen would make things tougher on Allen, but if he’s really good enough to make it Anfield, he’ll manage.

Besides, you get the feeling that Eriksen wouldn’t come with all the confidence and form issues that have plagued Allen throughout his first year with the Reds. Christian Eriksen is a ready-made midfield dynamo, who must be desperate to make his mark at a big club.

That’s why I was excited to hear The Metro claim that Liverpool were close to agreeing an £18m deal for Eriksen with his current club, Ajax. That’s a lot of money, but it looks like a smart investment.

It was interesting to see Ryan Babel comment on his ex-Ajax team-mate on Twitter recently. Apparently Babel (who currently plays for Turkish side Kasimpasa) has given the Danish midfielder the low-down on Liverpool:

“4 the LFC fans who have questions about Eriksen, i’ve gave him enough information about the club during past season.. so he understands LFC.”

“In my opinion its LFC who have to make the real effort to get him, then i’m confident for a good ending. #LFC” @RyanBabel

It very much looks as though the ball is in Liverpool’s court. And in this case, Brendan Rodgers would be foolish to let the opportunity pass him by.

What’s your take? Is it time for Liverpool to finally close the deal for Christian Eriksen?

Zero chance of getting Eriksen, because Rodgers would have to admit that back pass Allen is a waist of space. And Rodgers never blames himself for his mistakes.Besides he’d cost to much money & have to pay him decent wages, which ayre won’t do.THE THREE STOOGES ( Henry ayre & Rodgers ) only have plans to get the wage bill down, and now that they have that done there summer is complete. So much for the first team players coming ;-(

  • Marshall says:

Dont think lfc will sign otherwise they would have by now.

I actually am not that interested in Erikssen any more. At AM Coutinho can be much better than him & we have two of the best prospects developing in Suso & Texiera for that position. I am rather more interested for the CB, LB, DM, the Winger & Striker (even if Suarez stays) positions.

Signing him would improve our team drastically and we need him in. Its a bargain!!

  • Tony R says:

Rodgers eriksen is already a world class player get him 18mil that’s a bargin then do a swap with real 30mil plus benzema then get papa and Bernard then we will have a danger team __________________mignolet________________________ ___johnson________agger____papa________enrique_____ ______________gerrard________lucas_________________

Well, to me i prefer any player that can score up to 25 goals + suarez to push us up next

  • LFC4LIFE says:

I wish lfc would sign him, but I cant c it happenin. Brendan loves allen too much. Its a shame, bec eriksen will def turn out to b a world class player, he has already achieved so much at a young age. He is actually more established than gerrard was at his age.
I laughed wen brendan said more excitin players on the way, we havent signed any excitin players yet’.

    Fed up with this crap!

  • ad says:

liverpool will not buy him or else they wouldhave done what a pity though

i dont think eriksen at 21 years of age would be able to demand mega wages. He is an amazing prospect and without dout a a VERY good football player but he aint a star yet…yet :). With shelvey, reina gone, and some of our youngsters gone out on loan and more than likey a couple more lfc players heading out the exit door imo we have more than enough to be able to sign eriksen and even bernard, papa and cissoko. weve made 20million in carroll and shelvey sales and spent 20million on our four signings so FSG hasnt put there hands in there pockets yet…and we can still sell spearing, downing, assiadi, and coates!! thats easily between 20-25million we could get for them!! 18mil for erikesen, 15mil for bernard and i know this wont happen but 20mil for shaqiri and thats the summer trasfer done!! bring on the start of the campaign!! 🙂

Joe Allen has proved himself. He’s proved himself to be no good. Get him off the wage bill and bring in somebody better.

  • Justin monyping ater. says:

I agree wit tony R bt suarez should take come nxt season.

  • kihenja says:

lfc have enough mid fielders. get us a good striker a good central defender and a lback. remind suarez that he has a contract with the club.infact suarez shud be training with under 20s.

  • mike Dherny says:

I totally agree with the fact dat we should get a mid fielder who can really compete at a very high level consistently. We all know dat Joe Allen is not the player to dat for Liverpool. Signin a top player like Eriksen or Bernard is not too much of investment for our dear Fc Liverpool. Up Reds

  • Balogun Yusuf Olayemi says:

I’m pleading 2 liverpoolfc board of director 2 finalise this deal in time b4 is bin snatch away by other interestd clubs

  • muhammed said says:

If there is any posibility please bring this dane a wonderful player.

  • Mikkyslim says:

I dnt tink so, if u’re read d coach u’ll knw dat lack goals in his resume is more d reazin we’ve nt signd him nd i dnt think we shud, xcpt if we’re selling Assaidi nd Downing nd also certain we can get Shaqiri.

  • Gabby says:

I think Erikson will be an exciting signing for our darling club LFC, bringing him will be the best for all of us to see what he can also prove, but it should be done earlier before any interested club snatch him away from anfield. Rodger should sell the likes of Assaidi, Borrini, Coates and Allen to raise fund bring in Bernard and Tolby
